David Cusworth: is an automated poster that scrapes the BBC and UK Planned Engineering Works pages. Because the wording of these pages can change frequently, older information is de-emphasised. This was to ensure posts from actual humans could be picked out - particularly necessary at sites like where the engineering work went on and on seemingly without end.

In this most recent case, the information is actually the same for the last three posts, but the BBC site reports 'today', then 'yesterday', then gives the actual date. Because the text has changed, the automated process posts a new message, even though the *meaning* of the text hasn't changed.

I've been having the same problem as p blyth the last two nights. Yesterday, I had to turn off altogether because dropped out every few minutes. Tonight I have followed instructions on the BBC site and retuned my box. This seems to have strengthened the signal a bit, although it wobbles occasionally. Unfortunately, it has also lost the channel I was watching plus several of my favourite channels. Trying to add them manually just tells me they don't exist.

The is on the . I was wondering if the problem could be the current high air pressure. Although, that wouldn't explain why the signal should go at around the same time both nights.

P.S. The signal has just dropped out completely again.

Thanks very much for explaining the HD situation - all is now clear.

I'd assumed that all transmitters carried HD (well, all plugs for programs on HD imply that it's there to be used), and the reason the Guide in my recorder didn't show any HD was because it isn't HD-enabled - as far as I know.

My reference to Nov was from looking at the FreeHD tab at the top of this page - just re-looked and it's saying BBC1 HD starts Nov 3rd. Again, the headline implication is that it will be available everywhere.

We normally get good however recently it has become very patchy.in the evening we can lose the signal completely. is this because of the process
