I've got a filter on its way, but having come back it's just gone again so tested strath and quality. Strength 8%, quality 0%

Paul Robinson: Nobody is "messing around" with the transmitter. All engineering work that is carried out is essential to ensure that the structure is properly maintained and that all services are able to continue operating reliably. This will mean occasional interruptions to services as some works cannot safely take place whilst the transmitter equipment is operating at full power. Most work is also weather dependent as the engineers cannot safely work in high winds or heavy rain etc.

Paul Robinson:

Hi Paul. It's probably worth remembering that it's now a good 10 years since DSO and quite a few transmitters have been having extended periods of Planned Engineering. It's highly probably that not only is quite a lot of maintenance needed, but some equipment may need to be updated/upgraded, not something that can be done in an instant especially as a thorough inspection would be needed first to know the extent of what might be needed.

Has the filter helped give an overall improvement and better stability in strength and quality? Also, reception won't have been helped by the recent disruption to reception for some when the high pressure/hot weather brought some strong Tropospheric Ducting!

Thanks Chris, I fitted the filter, but it's difficult to tell. All was working well, until Friday when the SD Channels started to break up a bit and the HD channels dissapeared altogether ( they returned this morning)
My main gripe is why these organisations ,whether it be the engineers or TV companies can't be more honest. If they came out and said it'll probably take 2 months of disruption but may overrun I could understand and deal as such. Instead there seems to be this veil of secrecy which helps No one.

I live in Stourbridge in the West Midlands and am tuned to The Wrekin via a roof aerial and powered signal booster, For the past 3 weeks, I have only been able to receive BBC SD channels. I have seen that engineering works on The Wrekin transmitter have been scheduled' the past few weeks and I assumed this was the cause. But there is nothing in my local newspaper about this and can't see any publicity about it online. Surely it would be very well publicised if the lots of people are being affected? I now find it hard to believe that these works have going on for such a long time and are the cause of my reception problems for all these weeks. I don't know what to do and am close to asking an aerial company to check my home aerial. Can anyone give me any advice? Also, when are the Wrekin engineering works due to be completed?
