I live in a poor tv signal area in Derry. With the sheriff mountain transmitter transmitting from October 12 does this mean I will receive a greater tv signal strength?

ken breslin: It depends which transmitter you receive your TV from. When you say "poor TV signal area", which signal are you referring to?
If you are referring to digital (Freeview), then you must be receiving it from another transmitter, probably Limavady, as Sheriff Mountain doesn't broadcast Freeview yet. In which case, if it's a bit intermittent now, then the increase in power at switchover should see that it's more reliable.
See my posting of 18 April 2012 @ 11:09AM to Dermy, immediately above yours. Sheriff Mountain will only carry the Public Service Broadcaster channels, so you will probably want to stick with Limavady if you can.

ken breslin: I should add that you receive from one transmitter or the other, this being dependent on the direction and polarisation of your aerial.
So if your aerial is directed to Limavady, then the introduction of Sheriff Mountain plays no part in your reception. However, at the same time Limavady's power increases which should help you (if indeed you receive from Limavady).

Hi, can I confirm, Holywell hill will be providing the rte channels all of them ?,will sheriffs mountain after switch over provide any station or are all the other stations coming form limavady?

Chris: Refer to my posting, above, of 18 April 2012 @ 11:09AM.
Sheriff Mountain will not broadcast RT or TG4 after switchover. It will broadcast only Freeview Lite (PSBs only) channels.
"If" reception from Limavady is a possibility at your location, then this may provide you with a full Freeview service, although it too will not carry RT/TG4 either so you will still have to rely on Holywell Hill for those.

victor: Yes.
Switchover at Limavady will take place in two stages. The first stage is on this coming Wednesday when BBC Two analogue will be switched off and the BBC standard definition digital services will go on full power. The rest of the analogue channels are turned off on 24th and the other digital channels come on the air on full power then.

Brian : No, never. This is because the Commercial broadcasters don't consider it worth their while to transmit from over 1,000 small relay sites like Sheriff Mountain.
In Northern Ireland, only Brougher Mountain, Divis and Limavady will carry the Commercial multiplexes.
