Saorview and the NIMM - Ireland fixes on UK Free TV

I have been though all the data for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland on UK Free TV and made several updates to bring everything up to date and to fix the items that were no longer working.

I have just been through everything to do with Saorview, so all the 700MHz changes in the Republic of Ireland are now listed correctly.   Quite why everyone feels the need to publish all this data as PDF documents I will never know!

Northern Ireland Mini multiplex

The NIMM was added to Divis on 4 March 2020, it is the database but does not show up on the transmitter page because I did not code the system to add new multiplexes at 700MHz Clearance.

I've looked at https://www.freeview.co.uk/sites/default/files/2019-11/2020_UTV_Date_Release.pdf and there are a few other transmitters that now have the NIMM.    There are now 8 masts, covering about 528,700 homes.   I have added these to the system so they will now show up on the relevant five extra pages.  Most of these seem to form a single frequency network on C48, which is very efficient use of the allocated channels.

I have also fixed the problem with the BBC channels not showing up on the Northern Ireland pages.

Saorview in the Republic of Ireland

Saorview has been included here on UK Free TV for the last 15 years, but the pages were a little hard to find and were a little out of date.   The page is now forund at https://ukfree.tv/maps/saorview

I’ve now included all of the updates to the service that are shown in https://www.dccae.gov.ie/documents/2RN%20DTT%20Television%20Transmission%20Network%20Post700MHz%20%20Rev.1.0.pdf and I have also reformatted the main Saorview page.

Now you can see the transmitter coverages areas by single clicking (tapping) on the “S” icons or you can double-click to get the each of the transmitter details.   There is also a summary table on this page if the icons are hard to use on your device.

The details pages for each mast now show the TV and radio channels broadcast by each mast, such as at Cairn Hll

You seem to be missing the relays at Drogheda and Wicklow, they were added in the last few years. Both on 22V and 25V.

Stephen McGarry:

Thanks for the update. I'm afraid the site owner hasn't been able to keep up with all the changes resulting from the 700MHz Clearance and other consequential changes, also in addition currently has health issues, so I'm afraid we aren't expecting any shortcomings to be resolved in the near future.
