The symbol shows the location of the Crystal Palace (Greater London, England) transmitter which serves 4,490,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Crystal Palace (Greater London, England) mast?

Adrian: You are indicated as being only 4 miles away from Crystal Palace and as such very prone to suffer from severe signal overloading problems, and indeed likely be unable to get any reception at all come April 18th when Crystal Palace goes over to high power operation, as the signal will grossly overload the tuner in your TV.

If you have a set top aerial lying around try a test using that to see what happens on your Freeview channels, if it helps the situation then you will require to use an attenuator in line with the aerial socket on your TV.

However maybe you could give an update regarding your aerial, that is where installed.

My digital TV often switches the radio stations from 700 numbers to 800 numbers. I retune but it happens again. Other BBC channels are also affected, not the main ones, but The news channel, Sky News and the Red button is now an 800 number. My transmitter is Crystal palace and the TV is a Marks and Spencer brand.

Thank you.

My post code CM9 4SF. My (low gain) aerial is mounted on a pole on the chimney and points at Sudbury. Looks like a 12 element (?) but I didn't put it up there. See aerial photo Pictures by 1stevebevan2 - Photobucket
I can only get PSB's. Is it likely that with replacement high gain aerial I could get COM 5,6 now or no chance, just have to wait until Sudbury goes to full power on COM 5,6 late July? Alternatively with high gain aerial, could I get all Crystal Palace muxes when it goes full power 18th April? Want to dump Sky as soon as possible! (CM94SF)

Steve: The reception predictions seen for your post code does not for the time being indicate very promising, insomuch that your present reception of Sudbury's PSB muxes plus SDN (ITV3 etc) is about the only choice you have, even at that the SDN mux is indicated as being variable, meaning that glitches in reception can be expected.

I don't feel that you would really achieve anything by changing your aerial as the missing muxes (ArqA & ArqB) are not indicated as being possible to receive anyway, and so called high gain aerials have a lot of hype attached to what they can actually achieve, as the only time that they "might" give a positive improvement is in circumstances where exceptional distances of a near line-of-site nature are involved, your situation at 19 miles not being!

However, from June 27th you should be able to receive all six muxes from Sudbury when the presently low powered commercial muxes also start transmitting on high power, as the PSB muxes are presently doing.

By the way, you are not predicted to have good reception from Crystal Palace at any time and that's right into 2014.
