On satellite,
1 red button video stream can hold 4 or 6 videos, depending on the resolution.
Some of the current video streams have just 1 sound channel and some have up to 6 sound channels.
So if the BBC remove 4 regions, then the red button could be used at 6:30pm to 7pm to show the local news. (Veer the red button)
If the BBC remove 6 local stations, then they can still do this but at a lower resolution.
Before 6:30pm and after 7pm the video streams can return to showing other videos.
Just an idea.

Saying that PSB stations would not have to pay, ...
Would this mean just BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and 5.
So the BBC would still have to pay for BBC3, BBC4, BBC news ect.
ITV would pay for ITV2 etc
Channel 4 for More 4, Film 4 etc
Channel 5 for 5 star, 5USA etc.
If this includes all the PSB sub channels, would that include part owned channels like UKTV.
I can see a lot of gray areas here.
Sky would put up the price for the remaining stations and everybody would spent more money on lawyers.
I am in favour of the BBC saving this money and spending it on better programs.
I just hope this saves them some money and dose not cost them more on layers and increased charges with any non PSB channels.

Just wondering.
Do Sky count BBC3 and CBBC as two channels, also BBC4 and CBeebies as two channels?
If they do then they could turn two channels into 24 hour channels, close the other two channels and save the cost of two EGP slots.
EG BBC3 showing only kids programs up to 7pm then BBC3 programs.
BBC4 showing baby programs only up to 7pm then BBC4 programs.

Channel 5+1 = Channel 6
but
5* = 5 x 0 = Channel zero
5*+1 = 5 x +1 = 5x1 = Channel 5
5 USA = 5 US + A

If two digital boxes don't work, it sounds like a problem with the aerial or aerial lead.
See if your digital tuners work at a friends house and ask your neighbours in your flat if their TV works.
Also check the the center wire in the aerial lead plug is not bent or broken.
If your tuners work at friends house, report your broken aerial to your landlord.
If you have a very good signal in your area before you lost your picture, you may get a week signal with a small portable TV top aerial.
If you get your signal from Crystal Palace then you are using one of the strongest transmitters in the UK.

I would love to know what Channel 5 where showing in Feburary 1998.
That must have been the day all the other channels closed down and went on holliday.

In the beginning there was the testcard.
Then the mighty teletext service Ceefax came and killed (replaced) the testcard.
Then came iText on digital TV that replaced Ceefax.
And then came the BBC cutbacks, and low and behold the rebirth of the testcard came once again.
