Richard: If the signal path from the transmitter (Hannington) passes over trees (unable to check) then this can affect one mux more than another, however on the other hand as you reside at a distance of only 7 miles away from the transmitter and with a clear line of sight being indicated (land only) on a RG14 2PF test code, if you are using a booster then temporarily try bypassing it just in case the signal is a little over the top strength wise for the tuner fitted in your TV or box, as this possibility cannot be discounted

Freeview reception disappeared suddenly at about 2145 yesterday, on all three TV sets in the house. We are in OX11 0HW, using Hannington not Oxford (because of a huge tree in the way, though the rest of the village seems to get Oxford OK), with aerial on the roof and a masthead amplifier - the aerial and ancillaries was installed only a year or so ago. I have tried the reset procedure and been up in the loft to examine wiring and amplifiers, which look undamaged. Can you suggest any possibilities?

Bob Sharp: Are you sure that these channels are from Hannington? Bring up the signal strength screen and see if it's tuned to UHF channel 42 (642MHz).

Peter Groves: Although you will most likely had done something about the situation by now, but what you have reported suggests that your mast head amplifier might have failed or, and the more likely, that the power supply to same has developed a fault even although its LED is illuminated, as some of these LED's only indicate that the device is powered up and not that its supplying any DC output voltage.

Regarding the forthcoming switch-on of 800MHz 4G mobile phone services, there does seem a chance that it will interfere with Freeview from Hannington. So at800 (www.at800.tv) claims to have sent postcards to all addresses in Newbury (Speen, Donnington, Shaw, Clay Hill) north of the A4, saying they can have a free 800MHz filter if affected. What I don't understand is that these are called "Channel 59" filters, but Hannington doesn't use any channel above 47 (682MHz) so why would 800MHz signals cause problems?

The bbc channels are on a different mux to itv and channel 4 which are both on the same mux.
Although the mux which all these channels are on get outputted at the same strength this does not mean you will receive them the same.
This is determined by aerial location, you can move an aerial simply a few feet and receive mux's differently, this is why when an antenna is fitted the installer should check all mux's prior to mounting the aerial making sure all are working correctly.
If you have been receiving BBC channels with no issues then I can only assume that the reception is marginal, this means that for the most it will be working fine but when there are changes in the atmosphere and changes in temperature your signal will be reduced on the cable and therefor move your signal from marginal to poor. If your signal was very good then the temperature we currently have will only reduce the strength to good, giving you a working channel.
If in fact some of your muxs are very good and some marginal then the only real resolve for this would be to have the antenna mounting in a location where all muxs are very good.
regards
