How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Roidy: To be quite honest about it very few places actually replace components in these boxes but simply replace the complete power unit, and the cost of working out to be not be that terribly far off the price of picking up a good second hand one, and so you have to take this into consideration.

Should you take it into a service depot, mention that you have been advised about a possible power unit defect and ask for a repair quote.

Have had Thomson digibox for 7 yrs - sat dish around 10 yrs. Unable to get some channels on Discovery menu - "no signal". Various times of the day and night get "broken"/frozen picture on other Discovery programmes. All other channels OK. Any ideas to sort problem appreciated.

anita: Press "services" then 4 - 6 and check that the signal indications are both equivalent to about 55% or so minimum, as if under then your dish requires slight realignment, if though the levels are fluctuating to a considerable extent then this could indicate water having crept into the "F" connector on the dishes LNB, this requiring it to be unscrewed and checked out.

Can anyone help please - it seems whenever it rains (even the lightest drizzle) my sky looses reception with the 'Your Sky+ HD box isn't getting a satellite signal'. Am getting so fed up. Turning off/on power etc doesn't help until the weather drys out. Been really bad over the past 3 weeks or so, practically unusable. Anyone else experiencing this or can offer advise ??

anita: That level is really much too low for satisfactory reception and is almost guaranteed to be the reason for your problem.

Regarding the dish, when I had mentioned that the dish might require "slight" realignment this is because that its most likely been moved a fraction to either the left or right of its correct position by high winds, and so if the box is left on its signal check screen and the dish is located in a position where the TV can be seen from it, if someone presses the dish on either its left or right hand side the signal level / quality will usually be seen to correct itself "whilst being pressed".

Needless to say, the horizontal plane clamp bolt would require to be slacked slightly and the dish nudged in the direction where the signal indicated the best, then the clamp bolt re-tightened.

cls99: If you look above at my two replies to anita @ 1.23pm & 8.37pm then the advice given to anita will also apply to your own problem, however as you have a Sky+ HD box then the signal checking menu will be different, and so use the under mentioned procedure for signal checking.

Sky HD box - signal checking.

1:- Press "Services" on your Sky remote control and you will see the main
menu with "Options" highlighted.

2:- Highlight the Settings menu using the right arrow button and press
select.

3:- Use the left / right arrows scroll to "Signal" and press select.

4:- The grey bars displayed will show you the strength of the signal to
your SkyHD box.

currently have no signal being received on my sky+ hd box. At first it states the number 25 in the top right, then I put it on standby and switched it back on it said 30. Repeated again and it said 10. I called sky cs they got me to do a software download. This didn't resolve the issue and when I switched it back on it said initialising and then goes off to a blue screen. And when I press tv guide it states searching for listings. I called back and he suggested resetting the box (which would delete everything) as he could not guarantee this would work I refused this option. I have just checked the signal as stated above and the bars are empty. My postcode is M50 1DH. I live in flats and have a communal dish. I don't know anyone to ask if they're having the same problems, the weather is dry. I was not receiving certain channels a few months back (universal, disney, e) and an engineer came and sorted that as I wasn't receiving 1 of the 4 channels. The cs person said to take my box to someone elses house (yes seriously) to see if it's the box or the dish so I'm going to try it at my cousins tomorrow. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot afford to spend another 65 quid on an engineer.
