How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

marie: Yu should first of all try disconnecting the box from the mains supply (remove rear connector) and after allowing it to sit for about 30 secs or so reconnect it again, then once it starts to respond to the remote control allow it to go through the usual process of searching for listings etc.

If the problem is still there then press "services" and you will then see the main menu with "options" being highlighted, highlight the "settings" menu using the right arrow button and press select, then using the left / right arrow buttons scroll to "signal" and press select, this will then display the signal level indicator bars and where both strength / quality should be at about 55%+ to resolve a picture, if not the dish is slightly out of alignment but far enough not to resolve a picture, however should nothing at all be seen on the indicators then either the dish is well out of alignment or the box has developed a problem, the internal power supply of same being the usual cause of this problem.

Further info dependant on results of test plus the brand model of the box in question.

Checked the levels of signal, 65% - 70% both adjusted slightly to get roughly 80% - 90% of both. Powered down system, and on re-boot I now get some chanels, Watch, Gold, Chnl 5, Dave etc. But BBC 1& 2 Sky1,ITV, all have this channel has technical fault????

CONRAD: Well these indications are certainly OK, but though that is inclined to point to the box as the problem insomuch that its tuner is possibly behaving in an erratic fashion, and with this type of fault usually always a symptom of a power supply problem to the tuner (being low) because when you carry out a signal test on "any" Sky box you are only getting the indications obtained from one single frequency, namely the default transponder, and its not necessarily the case that the readings you obtained would be the same if tested on some of the other transponder frequencies, but though its not possible to do this on a Sky box.

However, as you have noted the level of the readings obtained on your own dish it would be of interest to know what they would be if that "same box" was tried out on your parents dish, and indeed if the box performed any differently, but I can assure you that as far as both your parents and you experiencing similar problems is concerned it "has" to be coincidental, as nothing can stop Sky (or Freesat) reception provided that the dish has an unobstructed view of a S/SE skyline (28.2 degrees from South)

By the way power supply problems on Sky boxes are quite common, and is caused by the electrolytic capacitors drying out though heat which results in a slightly reduced output voltage being supplied to the tuner.

Update, I bought a re-conditioned digibox to day, just fitted it. And is working fine. Longest part of the job was the 20 minutes on the phone to SKY getting the card paired to the box.... Will try box at parents (freesat)after. If that works then another recon box tomorrow.

CONRAD: Thanks for the update, and I would be interested to hear the results of the tests at your parents house, although they "might" initially appear to be slightly better as the box will be stone cold when you try it, albeit that very likely wont last long once it heats up.

Regarding the pairing of your card to your new box, purely out of interest did you find that you couldn't access the recorder? even to only play back something previously recorded?

Tried the recon box at parents tonight, (without free view card) working fine for around 4 hours. Will buy another recon digibox tomorrow. Must have been a pure coincidence that the power supply failed in both boxes with in a week of each other. It was the multiroom box that I had to replace not the sky+ box.
Thanks for all your advice, really appreciate it.

Hi there

we have sky + HD in living. we have two f connector attachments attached to the communal ariel at wall. one connection goes straight to the sky box and the other connection is split with the second one going to hd box and the third one going to a multi distribution point in the loft. both tvs are free sat digital tvs. we cant get any signal for freesat at all and when we have tried to install another sky box in the bedrooms it says there is no signal being received even though we can go through menu and see whats on there is no pictures. when we checked the signal strength it looked under the 55% as you suggested. the second attempt we put the two f connector cables from the wall to the back of the sky box, took the rf2 output out into the loft at the distribution point and into the rooms and still no signal. have you any idea what we can do...we dont understand how we are not even getting any free channels on the televisions

Donna: When you say the second one is going to the HD box then where on the HD box is it going? is it into one of the LNB inputs or is it into the boxes normal aerial socket?

Also, when you refer to "F" connector attachments did you fit them or were they already there? and if so is anything printed on them? and if so what.

My reason for asking is that there are various configurations used on these wall plates and there are quite a few around that only provides a single satellite output and not two as required by Sky+.

Also as far as the multiroom distribution amplifier in the loft is concerned this is more likely for Freeview distribution and not satellite, as a single satellite feed cannot be split and shared between rooms.

Maybe you could update on the various queries referring to attachments etc.

We have tried all the reset procedures. Some builders were working near the dish and since then cannot get a full signal to come back with adjusting the satellite dish.
Could a hit to the dish cause it to be broken completely. It looks intact and cables seem in place.
