The symbol shows the location of the Belmont (Lincolnshire, England) transmitter which serves 710,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Latest: Tried to update and the same happened again. Only this time I looked at the install list to see if Film4 was listed. Indeed it was.....but twice!

I then turned the TV off...waited a while....and on again. And we were back to the usual 'retune' message.

I wonder if we're getting 2 signals and when the TV is turned back on again it is picking the 'old' signal and not the new one.

Rachel: One possibility is that it might right itself when the 'old' Film4 (the one with the message) is removed. We don't know when that might be, but changes like that happen on Wednesdays.

The point is, as explained by jb38 in response to one of your previous postings, Film4 is in the process of moving from COM6 multiplex to PSB2 multiplex:

Belmont (Lincolnshire, England) Full Freeview transmitter | ukfree.tv - 11 years of independent, free digital TV advice

It is broadcast simulataneously on both, albeit that COM6's has the retuning message overlayed. Evidently the new Film4 on PSB2 isn't displacing the old one on logical channel number (LCN) 15 when you retune.

Perhaps the issue is perculiar to your model of TV so workarounds will have to be tried.

Try tuning in PSB2 but not COM6. Fortunately with Belmont the former is on a low channel/frequency and COM6 is on a high one. So run the automatic tuning scan and unplug the aerial at 30% or once it gets past UHF channel 31. This should give you PSB1 (BBC One etc), PSB2 (ITV, Film4 etc), PSB3 (HD services if applicable) and COM4 (ITV3 etc).

Then check to see if the new Film4 is on LCN15 - this being the one which doesn't have the retune message overlayed and which the signal strength screen will tell you is being received on UHF channel (frequency) 25 or 506MHz.

Now power down whatever you do that results in it going back to the old Film4 on LCN15 (probably power off and then on). See if the new Film4 is retained on LCN15.

If it is then go to the manual tune function, if there is one, and add UHF channel 53 (COM5 - Pick TV etc) and UHF channel 60 (COM6 - 4Music etc).

Well seeing what happens when Film4 permanently moves hasn't helped. It does tune in, but once the TV is turned off it then goes back to the way it was.

Have followed all the suggestions so far and so far no luck.

So reset it to factory settings (wiped everything including any software updates to the tv)....literally right back to the start. First thing that scared us slightly was when it managed to find 5 analogue channels (how exactly? lol)

To end a very long story......it worked. The new Film4 channel settings has held.

Rachel: The reason for your TV having lost Film4 when switched off was simply due to the TV's tuner having picked up more channels than its memory store system could hold, excess channels being held in a temporary but volatile memory store but which is fully reliant on a permanent power source, needless to say this permanent power source being lost when you switched the set off hence the reason for the channels being lost

By the way, the "factory reset" procedure wipes everything stored in the tuners memory, "factory reset" also being known as "default setting" or "first time installation" dependant on brand.

As far as analogue channels are concerned, as this mode is no longer used in the UK then you may possibly be picking up the RF output from a Sky + boxes modulator.

della betley: Queries of this nature should "always" be accompanied with a post code as Freeview reception in the Lincolnshire area is possible from more than one transmitting station, however "if" you are referring to the Belmont transmitter then even although engineering works are taking place at this station any possible effects of will only be evident on its FM radio transmissions and not the TV services as the work is not involved with the Freeview transmitters.

HI,

When transmitter work is taking place it will only be minor disruption for minimal time but can be frequent.

Total loss of signal for a long period may well be down to your aerial system.

BT are only responsible for providing the equipment ie Youview box, NOT the reliability of your aerial system, this is down to you to maintain.

regards

I am in Kingston upon Hull btw . (53.7457,-0.3367)
