For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Has nobody got any comments on the poor subtitling I mentioned above a week ago?

steven: No.

By my reckoning your aerial points to the Berwick relay transmitter, at 322 degrees. This only carries the channels you have.

Your friend must be receiving from Chatton which is the main transmitter and which carries all channels.

The reason for unlikely to be unable to receive from Chatton is caused by the fact that you are nearly at sea level and that the ground rises up steeply a short distance from you, i.e. you are at the bottom of a drop (in the direction of Chatton which is 158 degrees).

See this plot of the terrain between you and Chatton:

Terrain between ( m a.g.l.) and (antenna m a.g.l.) - Optimising UK DTT Freeview and Radio aerial location

Freesat is probably your best bet for more free-to-air channels.

Well done Steven, a reply to your query within one hour.

It appears nobody has any comments about the rubbish subtitles I'm getting in the West Midlands on certain channels.

Mike Rogers: You have probably had no reply as this site is not responsible for programme production. You say one programme was perfect and others are not, so it really points to the programme producers and it is to them you should complain. This site is primarily concerned with helping people who have problems affecting all reception in one form or another and not something as specific to some programmes on one MUX.

Thanks for that Mike.

Perhaps you could advise me who might actually be interested in the provision of subtitles on TV programmes. The TV channels say it's not their problem as subtitles are added by others.

I assume from what you say the individual transmitters have no interest in viewers problems listed in this website. If I Google "Contact Sutton Coldfield Transmitter" this website is top of the page. How do I contact Sutton Coldfield Transmitter, or is the answer, you can't?

I have posed the question to Ofcom but I don't hold out much hope they will do anything either.

Mike Rogers: That wonderful 'experience' - privatisation means that broadcasters don't own the transmitters any longer. They are all out of the broadcasters' hands(BBC ITV Ch4 Ch5) and the subtitles( I think) are also outsourced to various firms, RedBee Media being one. You may see them in credits for subtitles. Arqiva is the main operator of transmitter sites. It's a wonderful tangled web woven by you know who some years ago say around the 80s. Of course the consumer features very low in the priorities of operation now.

What is wrong with the Rowridge / Ventnor transmitters. Since Sunday I cannot view BBC 1, 2, 3,4 Pick TV and about 5 others. I use a 46db all in one against a window facing south, that worked before the weekend 8/11/14.Others in the ares have had the same problem.
