Kayj: A booster might help if you have a weak signal, however there needs to be a signal there to boost in the first place. If you provide a full postcode we can see what the predicted reception is at your location and may be able to offer further advice.

Kayj: It looks like you're not really in a good location for any transmitter and would be far better off getting a Freesat box and dish installed, rather than spending a lot of time/money/effort on trying to receive a satisfactory Freeview signal.

Lyn Waite: Both of Smooth Radio's AM transmitters in Cardiff and Newport have now closed. Smooth is still available on DAB and via internet/smart speakers, etc.

Bernard : COM7 is still broadcasting from Pontop Pike, it closed at 5 transmitters as part of the 700MHz clearance program, however it moved to form a Single Frequency Network (SFN) on UHF channel 55 at the remaining 25 transmitters and no closure date has been announced. COM8 closed earlier this year for commercial reasons. It may be that you are in an area where interference from another transmitter is now cancelling out COM7. If you provide a full postcode we can see what the predicted signal strength is at your location and may be able to offer further advice.

Stephen Taylor: Yes, you will get all of the free channels if you connect a Sky box to the dish.

Alan C: London Live is a local TV channel, which has to be encrypted on satellite due to rights restrictions as it is only intended to cover the London area. This is not an issue on Freeview, as London Live is only broadcast from Crystal Palace and a handful of other transmitters in the London area.

Gary Short: Llandrindod Wells is a Freeview Lite transmitter, it covers only a few thousand homes and only has the main PSB channels (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5) and a few of their offshoot channels (ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, etc). The rest of the commercial channels are broadcast from around 90 main transmitters which cover around 90% of UK households, it takes over 1,000 more transmitters to reach 99.5% coverage and the commercial broadcasters are not willing to pay the costs of extending coverage of their channels.

C Michaels: You're trying to listen to a station outside of its intended coverage area which DAB was never designed to do (the Stoke & Stafford multiplex was never intended to cover Manchester and has fairly patchy coverage according to the coverage map). It might be OK if you had a stronger signal or used a directional rooftop aerial pointed at the transmitter, but it would probably be far easier to listen online.

Kayj: If you buy a Freesat box and dish you will get most of the same channels, however they are broadcast from a satellite above the equator, it has nothing to do with Freeview which is broadcast from land based transmitters.
