What on earth was the point of Freeview withdrawing Together TV whilst for those without Smart TV it is the only way one can directly watch the channel through their receivers?

It hasn't been "withdrawn". It broadcast for 2hrs during the early hours as it time shares the space on the multiplex. The rest of the time it is a streamed channel BUT they appear to have changed the technical standard for streaming and only some modern Smart Tv's/Devices can view it. Crazy, I know!
