Stewart from Nottingham- Lost Feeview HD, got it back, lost it-I spent hours on Sat, Sun and Monday being told to reboot the TV-I have the latest Sony LED 3d HD Freeview model-exactly the same experience-no faults showing-but it is OBVIOUSLY faulty transmission. The lack of updated useful coherent information is pretty disgraceful, though staff at both Digital UK and BBC tried very hard to be helpful. Very frustrating-I changed TV to get Freeview HD!!! Not an uspicious start!

I got the same BBC comments as Tom Howes- they now know there is a definite problem, but there are no updates about it on any of the info sites-Digital UK, BBC etc. which is pretty shoddy in my view. The advice is =keep trying periodic rescans until it comes back (if it comes back!)-not saying which day though!!As a result of rescans, reboots etc I've no longer got channel buttons for 50-54, so it WILL be rescans each time! 15.00 26/04-still not on! Drat-thanks for all the helpful comments though-now I know it's not the TV Tuner!

Well, well-I to got an e-mail-this despite their telephone service assuring me there WAS a know problem-talk about a waste of time and space-content follows-
Dear Mr Crowe

Reference CAS-726037-378F30

Thanks for contacting the BBC.

I understand you've encountered problems with your HD reception recently.

The Digital UK postcode checker suggest HD is only available from the Nottingham transmitter so is entirely possible that you are now tuned into a site which doesn't carry the service such as Belmont. If so, I'd try manually retuning your receiver. The following links should prove helpful if you are unsure of the process:

Postcode Checker - Trade View

TV Re-tune uploads

Although it is worth noting that atmospheric pressure may have weakened your signal from Nottingham, causing you to temporarily lose it.

Another possibility is an issue with some aspect of your equipment. If this is the case, I'd suggest having a professional aerial installer, ideally registered with the Confederation of Aerial Industries (CAI) to assess the situation:

Aerial installers and satellite engineers - Confederation of Aerial Industries

Our reception advice website also provides details of how to identify and troubleshoot commonly encountered issues:

BBC - Help receiving TV and radio

I hope this information helps to clarify the situation and I'm grateful to you for taking the time to raise your concerns with us and I'd like to assure you that we value your feedback highly.

Kind Regards

James Kelly

I'm impressed that Tom Howes managed to track down a contact at arquiva. I'm bound to observe that this isn't the only site which is bombarded with the exact same scenario, though it is the most helpful. What is so galling is that they don't have a simple monitoring system to alert them to problems-a man in a room in the region watching HD would suffice. It's taken Tom and others-not least myself-this long to get half an acknowledgement that there IS a transmission problem-it is NOT our sets, our aerials etc. Postcodes from NG 1 to NG20 are affected, yet they seem to have been in in denial at the various bodies-it is NOT us not picking up the signal-there is NO signal, and no-one wants to suggest when and if it will return. Really shoddy service overall. Thanks for the updates, SC.

Thanks to Briantist for keeping a cool technical head and explaining things simply. My point was that monitoring equipment is all very well until you get an anomaly where the monitors say all is OK-but the lack of picture on the set says the opposite, and to that end, a less sophisticated method such " man with a set" might be advised! The multiple agencies involved "passing the buck" doesn't help either, and it has been reminiscent of "The IT Crowd"-"have you tried switching it off and back on?" from every helpdesk! I get frustrated by technology that does not work, and situations where common sense says that if everyone in the area has got no HD channels, it's not the sets or aerials!!!!!! OK, it's unusual-let's hope they get their fingers IN getting it put back to rights. Good Luck All! SC.

All Hail to ME! I found the number for the Arqiva Control Room via a Security number-They DID NOT KNOW about the problem. The VERY HELPFUL ANDY took me through tuning-no effect. He then reconfigured their system-and and as I watched-BACK CAME THE HD CHANNELS!!
However-a word of caution-this is the " fix they used on Monday-they did not know it had since "locked up" was their expression!
He gave me a 24 hour helpline-08001386959, so hopefully this may be of assistance. He was a really nice guy-apologetic, cheerful and helpful. They DON'T understand why it happened, so fingers crossed! Good Luck ALl! SC.

Hopefully all will be well from now on!
A more general query, which hopefully Brian can advise on. BBC HD only periodically "blips"-sound and pic falter for a millisecond-then it runs OK for several minutes , then it happens again. The ADS featuring the cat/Lion "blip" every time-the other HD channels don't do the same-is there anything I'm doing wron? My Sony TV is 100hz and I have Motionflow on Standard. Thanks for any advice. Best Regards, Stewart.

Hi Ken C-all 4 HD Channels working fine at 17.43pm on Nottingham transmitter here in Woodthorpe NG3! Try manual tuning Channel 21-that gives all 4 HD channels-otherwise the helpline would be the best bet. All providers say it is best after a new aerial/new transmitter to unplug set and aerial, leave for 15 minutes, then carry out an initial installation, not just a digital auto search. Worth a try-Good Luck! Best Regards, Stewart.

Thank you for your advice gentlemen-most useful. As a corollary-last night at 20.10 I received a phone call from ANDY at the Control Arqiva Control Room-he rang to ask if everything was still OK-to say that my ghast was flabbered is putting it mildly.
Such good, friendly service! He further informed me that they had no idea what caused the problem, but that on Tuesday evening, after my intervention, an Engineer replaced the piece of kit which had caused the problem (and which he'd had to recalibrate) wth a brand new one, so hopefully the problem would not reoccur!
I was most effusive in my thanks for his help and his concern in calling me back!
What a thoroughly nice, competent individual Andy is, and a credit to Arqiva!Best Regards, Stewart

Mike Dimmick is right-this supposed update on BBC HD is causing this blip (sound drop-out) problem with all Sony and Samsung Freeview HD sets, and many more besides. Sony did a firmware update on 18/04 but it has not worked-how frustrating!!! Thanks BEEB!
