Moville Saorview transmitter
Wednesday 18 April 2012 3:40PM
Ballymoney

I'm at BT53 7AS with 2 roof aerials Group B for Moville Analogue with 12V powered masthead amp and Group C/D for limavady Freeview and I have diplexer.
I have a Freeview HD set top receiver.
The maps show I should be receiving Saorview now but I'm not.
Do I have to change any hardware to receive Saorview now?
Will I have to change any hardware in October?

Thanks Peter,

Good news. I've got the cheapie - the refurbished Tesco STBHDIS2010 so I'll get Saorview in due course if the signal is strong enough.
At present the EPG shows Saorview Channel names but no programme details.
Are any changes likely to be necessary to the RTE aerial and amplifier?

Moville Saorview transmitter

Thanks again Peter,

I think these models are good value for the money and the direct access to BBC iPlayer can be a useful facility for replaying on the TV.

I tried Saorview RTE1 this morning around 6am and almost got a picture - not just pixellated but large blocks missing - and a few very short staccato sounds.
The EPG for the Saorview channels was almost fully populated with programme title, beginning and ending times and duration but no information when 'i' button was pressed. However, it's now 12.00 noon and there is no picture at all and EPG doesn't populate even when a channel is highlighted.

My analogue RET1 is good - as good a my analogue Channel 4
RTE2 often has diamond shaped interference all over the screen but is watchable and
TG4 is almost as good as RTE1

I am still optimistic for October.

The answer to Peter Henderson's question is that I'm definitely getting my analogue signal from Moville.
I like what Patrick learned from RTENL.

What does 2kW ERP mean? That's less than it takes to boil my kettle!
I'm about 35-40km in direct line from Moville. Given that Digital is either on or off, unlike Analogue which can be less than perfect but still "acceptable", is 2kW enough over 35-40km?

Thanks Dave Lindsay. Should have read the date on that posting before posting my question.

UK Digital switchover ends - Northern Ireland completes on 24th
Saturday 22 September 2012 10:42AM
Ballymoney

The list of transmitters under the heading "RTE One and RTE Two and TG4" above doesn't include Limavady.
Can anyone tell me whether viewers who receive Freeview from the Limavady transmitter will also receive the "Northern Ireland Mini-Multiplex" and will receive RTE One and RTE Two and TG4?

A neighbour living in Ballymoney 55.038321, longitude: -6.467348, grid reference: NW146806 has received an HD set top box and had an aerial installed in his loft under the BBC Help Scheme. He asked for the HD box because he wants to receive digital TG4, RTE1 & RTE2 after switchover.

The installers insisted that one aerial will be sufficient to receive both Freeview from Limavady and saorview from Moville by directing it at a compass point somewhere in the angle between Limavady and Moville.

Will this one aerial really deliver both Freeview and Saorview channels?

Michael: Thanks for the reply.
I'm assuming this means there is only a 9 degree angle between Limavady and Moville from BT53 7DH?

Looking from the ground up at my own two outdoor Freeview Limavady and RTE/TG4 Analogue Moville aerials and without being able to measure it I'd guess the angle could be around 10 degrees.

I suppose another important factor is the strength/quality of the signals after Switchover, in particular the Saorview from Moville
