Brian - Seems like somebody at SKY has kicked up with it being put out FTA as my receivers are showing it as videcrypt. It looks like we will have to wait until April before we see this concluded.

NottsUK - It may be of course that until the SKY contract has run out that this is an issue. Obviusly that contract will have to run its course and I assume that it will have done that at the point it is included on the "Freesat" EPG in April. As all the other channels that have been included on Freesat I expect it will also be FTA at the point also.

Tommy Fraser - BT vision requires connection via an external Aerial. If you don't have ab aerial installed you won't be able to link the BT Vision receiver.

Joyce Carter. Yes Joyce, what SKY have told you is correct. An alternative is to opt for the "Freesat" service supported by the BBC and ITV. This means buying your own "Freesat" receiver. There are various models (including HD) of these available also those that have the same recording ability as a SKY plus receiver. - There is no subscription required for "Freesat" and the these receivers are connected to your existing Satellite Dish.
Available from most TV and electrical outlets Suchas Comet, Curry's, Argos etc.

Brian - Re- Joyce Carter's post I directed her towards "Freesat" as an option so that she would continue to have record pause play features which without a SKY subs package she won't get. Like you state they do play games when it comes to retaining their customer base.

kevin ward - No a Freeview TV or stand-alone receiver requires an external aerial. You can buy yourself either an SD or HD "Freesat" receiver and connect to the SKY dish. These are available from Argos, John Lewis, Comet Curry's, independent radio and TV retailers and Online.

BBC/ITV Freesat - Spring 08 | Freesat

Brian - I bought a 24" Philips LCD TV from Costco (for a relative)just over 3years ago - warranted for 3years then but I they now offer a 5year in house warranty.

The set stopped working a couple days or so before the warranty was out. I contacted Costsco's Conceirge services support line (which seems to be in the US) and they wre sraight onto having a repair effectd by TVRS in Blantyre.

The fault was dry jointing but a new power supply PCB board was fitted and the set returned reasonably quickly considering it's 150mile round trip.

Unfortunately it was discovered that the back cover on the set had been broken and cracked at the top edge where the covers top corner screws were located - It obviuosly hadn't been put back square.

Contacted Costco Conceirge services again and they organised aresponse from TVRS where they eapidly responded and supplied a new rear back cover with full apologies - not their usual standard of service - fitting same at location.

Given some of the negative service posts I have seen in relation to others eg: Comet and Curry's thought this was worth some applaud to Costco's support Conceirge suppoert from the US !!!

JB - Your loft aeriel certainly won't be suitable for Freeview reception. You really require to install a roof aerial. Cost around £150 but may be more if you haa larger property. Best to get a quote from a reputable local TV installer.

Humax Freesat HD DTR Recorder. For those that struggle with what appears to be a problem with the remote control - Make sure that you take off all the protective packaging strips which includes the not so obvious strip under the front flap which impedes the remotes capacity to talk to the receiver via the sensor.
