My high gain aerial can't get all the Freeview channels I expected
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV You need a "wideband" aerial rather than a high gain one (see all about aerials). Also, if you use a signal booster in the setup, this can cause problems with digital signals.
Can I suggest that you try the following:
1. Check that all the connectors are OK, in particular that there are no stray wires and that both the outer shield and inner wire are connected;
2. If you are using any signal boosters, turn them off;
3. Check to see if you have anything like a VCR connected via a UHF fly lead - sometimes these can changed to use channels such as 68.
4. If you have a wideband aerial, if you can try raising it up an additional metre;

Had an issue with not receiving the main channels (bbc1, itv, etc) for my tv in the kitchen although the tele in the living room was working fine.
After checking the connections, the cause of this was because the wire in the wall plate was coming into contact with metal casing, insulating the wires resolved the problem.

My aerial is on the gable end and faces the Ripponden Transmitter which is only about 8oo yards away. I have re-tuned my TV but still cant get ITV3,ITV4, Film 4 or the Freeview Channels 11,12,19,20,30,38,46 and 49. Is there anything I can do to receive these channels on a terrestrial set.

Ian Fellows: Ripponden is a low power relay that does not broadcast the commercial multiplexes (COMs). The reason for this is because the COMs broadcast from 80-odd of the most lucrative transmitter sites. See here for more information:

In some cases you might be able to receive from one of the transmitters that does broadcast these services. Obviously the lower down you are, the lower your chances.
Provide your post code or put it in the Digital UK website (tick the box to say that you're in the trade).
I did this for St. Bartholomew's Church (HX6 4DG) and it suggests that Ripponden is the only transmitter that can be picked up from. Looking at the contours, I'm not surprised. (HX6 4DG)

Ian Fellows: Having located your post code, I ran it through the Digital UK predictor and it suggested that Emley Moor can be received from within it.
A post code covers a large area and that in a hilly area like Ripponden, what can and can't be received changes by property. The Digital UK predictor accepts house numbers/names to provide a more accurate result. I then entered your property's name which only returned Ripponden (no Emley Moor).
Bear in mind that the predictor is just that. For example, if you're willing to spend more on a larger aerial and taller mast then you might be able to achieve results (reception from Emley Moor) that you would otherwise not enjoy.
It might be worth looking around to see what neighbours have done.

Hi,
I have all standard freebies channels but since buying a new tv with Freeview HD built in we aren't getting any of the HD channels.
I've tried a few auto tunes and manual and it just doesn't seem to be picking them up at all.
The aerial is in the loft (town house so effectively the third floor) and the tv is a Samsung D7000.
Any help would be great, thanks.

eddie: On looking at the specifications for that model I can only see HD reception being possible on its Freesat input and not Freeview, as Freeview HD reception requires a device to be fitted with a DVB-T2 tuner and only DVB-T is seen in the spec, however on its Freesat side DVB-S2 is indicated which is correct for HD.
I think I remember another person a few months ago with exactly the same model as you asking a similar question, and which unfortunately received the same answer. (to his extreme displeasure).

eddie: Just in addition, terrible as it might sound for this to be necessary with such a high spec TV, but the only way you will be able to receive Freeview HD on that model is by using a separate Freeview HD box coupled into the set via an HDMI lead, that is unless you can manage to have a satellite dish installed.
