The symbol shows the location of the Sheffield (Sheffield, England) transmitter which serves 120,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Bill Procter: I assume that you are trying to use the Sheffield transmitter rather than Emley Moor, on the basis that you mentioned a retune event this week. If you are, the aerial should have rods going up-and-down rather than side-to-side.

If using Sheffield, you can't use the aerial-out trick, because Belmont BBC A is on C22 and Sheffield on C27 - the other PSB multiplexes will be interleaved.

For now, use these frequencies:

BBC A - C27
Mux 2 - C63
Mux A - C57
Mux C - C45
Mux D - C42
Mux B - C60

You can ignore Mux B if you don't have Sky Sports on BT Vision or Top-Up TV, because all the BBC channels are already on BBC A.

BIll I was in your area this morning I was on Winchester Cres S10 4ED - Belmont Really comes in strong in this position - so its not surprising you get the new signal from there

You can bypass your receiver tuning in the belmont signal by holding the aerial out at the VERY BEGINNING of the auto tune - if it counts up in numbers you have to pop the aerial in after it counts past 22 - YOU DO NOT HAVE LONG to do this as it gets to 27 fairly fast but with a bit of quick timing it is possible I did it on several retunes as soon as it shows 23 put the aerial in

Not sure if you will ever get rid of this problem as both transmitters are going to be powerfull in this area you could try attenuating it every time you need to re scan with a 24 db attenuator once its scanned take the attenuator out and store till the next time

There is one sure way of doing it but this method has been described as cracking a wall nut with a sledge hammer

Taylor bros make channel filters that only let the correct frequencies through but the part alone is just over `£100

the humax receivers you cant just do a channel re scan as it adds the channels it finds to the list it already has

do a factory restore before a rescan !

H Keith, all sorted!
Deleted all channels and did a manual scan on each of the new channels. Now have Christa back! (No Comment!)
Did the relatives 2 hummys(!) too no prob there either. But they do have the continuing problem that their line of sight for Xpool is also perfect for Waltham, so no Ch 45 or 42! Looks like this will be resolved at final DSO regards

Not heard from any one on the TOTLEY RISE transmitter would be interesting to hear their experience of being able to receive digital off a terrestrial transmitter for the first time

Is it definitely a HD tuner it has built in or does it say HD ready?
If it deffo has a HD tuner Emley moor transmission is on low power compared to the other Muxes (CH49 is also low power)
The HD channels are on CH 39 try a manual scan by entering 39 in the manual tuning menu stannington isnt the best place on earth for reception - but after switchover when Emley moor powers up you may find that the channels you are missing suddenly appear - first stage is 7th of september then 21st

Without putting an analyser on your aerial its difficult to say precisely whats going on but I would hang on till after switchover -if your still having issues give me a call

Hello, I live in Sheffield S12 - ive just connected our Hd freeview tv in our bedroom straight from the aerial on the roof (this is the only t.v running of the roof aerial) The only channels i get are the bbc dtv, radio channels and bbc1/2, itv1 and ch4 in analogue. I can get teletext epg,and the red button. Could it be the direction of my aerial? as most of the aerials on my streets face the opposite way to mine. Thank you.

Jamie: The Sheffield transmitter is not a good option for you. You should get better results from either Emley Moor or Belmont. If you want the Leeds news service, the aerial should point roughly north-west to Emley Moor, from which you should get good results now, including HD.

If you want the Hull news service, the aerial should point roughtly east to Belmont, which completes switchover tonight. Retune after 6am. You may not get the Arqiva A and B multiplexes - shown as Mux C and D above, except that Sky Sports move from Mux B to Mux D at switchover - until after the power increases in November.

My best guess is that your aerial actually points to Belmont and is getting the BBC A multiplex from there, although it does raise the question of where it's getting BBC Two analogue from, since that no longer transmits from Belmont or Sheffield. If it's notably weaker than BBC One, it's probably from Emley Moor.

Jamie: For either Emley Moor or Belmont, the aerial's elements should go side-to-side. For Sheffield, they would be up-and-down. Most likely no-one on your street needs to use Sheffield, but you will see some aerials in the vertical position around the city, for those who do.
