I'm in Braintree.
Back in July I was very happy with lovely signal strength and picture quality on all my Freeview Channels following the Digital Switchover - so I know there's nothing wrong with my kit - since November this year Film 4 and ITV 4 to name a couple are now mostly unwatchable (they went briefly altogether fo a few days. Something clearly happened but what - could someone please explain it to me and explain who I talk to or what I have to do to get my July quality of service back?
I don't recall anyone warning of any changes to the service beyond those of the July switchover so, in reading these pasts, if they have changed something surely reducing the quality of service is something that OFCOM would never allow?

Neil, in November, as part of the switchover for Tacolneston transmitter (the next one North of Sudbury) the carrier on Sudbury for Film4 etc. was moved to a higher frequency. This frequency, is difficult to receive for many aerials and receivers and, just to put the tin lid on it, the power is also very low. The reason that the power is low is so that it doesn't interfere with the Dover area.
Once Dover have finished their switchover, on 27th June 2012, a different frequency will be allocated which is both easier to receive and the power will go up to the full level.
So, you have a quandry - either put up with missing channels for the next 6 months, or invest money in upgrading your system, despite the fact that you've probably already had to do that once already.

Steve Ilott: I Must agree with david popperwell's comments. I live in the Clacton on sea area and after returning form holiday last week find that I have lost all freeview channels broadcast on band '50' i.e. Film4, Yesterday, ITV4 etc. Rang up the digital switchover people and was told that the Sudbury transmitter had technical issues Nov 17th (I think it was) and service had changed to channel 63 which I would need a new (band e) aerial for. My other option is to wait until 27 June when it will be fixed apparently.

We have a lot of comments about poor quality on 63 but it does not appear in the Freview Muxes list.

Think you're correct Vernon, it was on C50 until the last change. I'm sure the site administrators will note this and update when they have time. There's probably loads of changes happening at the moment and won't settle down until mid 2012, then we can all enjoy perfect Freeview! In the meantime you can always double check the channel numbers on the digitaluk site

Thnak you for a very succinct explanation of what has happened and the reasons behind it.
However I'm sure we're all equally shocked and distgusted that the transmitter engineers are able to do this, let alone without any prior warning or explanation, having already gone though a campaign to 'switchover' in the July - there was never anything said then that what need in July must be suitable for 'lower strength' signal coming in November.
How do I raise a complaint to these people - just directly with OFCOM?

This was known about before the switchover; it was being talked about by Mike Dimmick on the 28th June, for instance. I think that it isn't the engineers' fault, but the fault of the people providing the information about the switchover.
To be honest, I'm a bit surprised that Briantist hasn't updated the info at the top of the page to show the true existing channels or the final timescale. It would save a lot of people being very confused because they just want to know what channels to search for and they don't have the time or knowledge to go back through 10 pages of posts about MUXes, modes, powers etc.

We are also on the Sudbury transmitter.
When I recently purchased the DMR-EZ49VEB VHS/DVD recorder it displayed all the TV channels after setup. Yet since carrying out a 'New Channel' update recently I can no longer get Film4 or the Yesterday channels to show in the TV Guide+ listing. I have re-tuned automatically and manually following both the manual book instructions and DigitalUK's instructions until I'm blue in the face. But still they will not show.
Am I doing something wrong?
By the way, both Film4 and the Yesterday channels show up fine on the TX-32LXD700 TV and the DMR-EX89EB DVD recorder, with excellent picture quality. So I am obviously receiving a good signal.
HELP please!!

Stephen: Well, as the saying goes, two out of three ain't bad.
Bearing in mind that there are lots of people that can't get these channels now, you are doing well.
Not all devices are of equal sensitivity.
You could take the VHS/DVD to another aerial socket if you have one; or plug it straight into the aerial outlet if it's via another device or extension lead.
Or try wiping the tuned channels on the VHS/DVD and manually tuning them all, doing C63 first.
