anne west: Because it is carried on a new quasi-national multiplex (signal) -- known as COM7 -- which also carries BBC Four HD, BBC News HD and other HD services. Even if it was available from Stockland Hill, you would still need a Freeview HD receiver in order to watch it.

COM7 is only available from 30 transmitters, serving about 70% of the population. Its purpose is to encourage uptake of Freeview HD (DVB-T2) receivers, in much the same way as Freeview prior to switchover was to encourage uptake of Freeview (digital) receivers, that also not serving everyone.

The reason it is available from "only" 30 transmitters is to keep costs down as it utilised equipment already in existence, used prior to switchover.

Mike : See Digital UK Engineering Works:

Stockland Hill's status is "Possible weak signal" so don't adjust your set, it's probably the works that are causing your issue.

Hi at just before 1pm on 9 March the elec. power very quickly went down and up again and ever since that time we have had no free view signal through our aerial. We do have free sat signal though the satellite dish which is on the outside of our house next to the aerial. Our post code is TQ11 0LL and we were just wondering if there was a fault or work was being done on the transmitter to have caused a problem. I have checked all the TV's which rely on a signal through the aerial and they are all saying no signal.

Mrs H Cory: First thing: do not retune any TVs!

If there is a powered amplifier/booster then this is the most likely suspect. If it has a light on it, don't assume that just because it is on that the unit is functioning normally.
