I have to manually tune my Humax Freeview box to the Nottingham transmitter, as auto-tune goes to Waltham, which gives me Look North instead of East Midlands news. Nottingham appears to transmit on several channels, some of which seem to be 33, 45 & 49. However, whichever I tune to, I can't get reliable reception on ALL TV channels. Either BBC is good, or Dave is good, or ITV is good. Sometimes the best reception is on channels in the 800s range. How do I get them ALL good, and all on the correct channel numbers (i.e. 1 for BBC1 not 847)?
It's driving me to almost consider cable!

Paul : Nottingham presently transmits on Mux channels 27(main BBC) - 24(main ITV) - 67(SDN) - 21(HD services) - 63(ArqA) - 59(ArqB), the latter three mentioned operating on low power (40w) until September / October of this year when they then adopt their final frequencies & powers.
Anyone living in an area where signals can be received from more than one source will always have auto-tune problems unless their box has an area selector incorporated within the tuning menu, and in my experience not that many have, so manual tuning is always required.
Needless to say, anyone who has to use manual tuning should always resist the usual temptation that many have of carrying out a re-scan as soon as they might lose some channels, as this never helps! as all it does is require further frequent scans to recover them, as if they had left things alone they would have returned of their own accord.

My aerial in Wollaton is directed at Waltham however my Humax PVR continually picked up BBC1 Look North. I suspect that this could only have come from Belmont however the aerial is definitely pointing at Waltham. Only by carrying out a manual tune could I pick up the Waltham BBC mulitplex

reception NG3 pre 17th August could recieve all freeview chanels 10/10 but no HD chanels.
Post 17th August still no HD chanels and now lost most of the BBC freeview chanels. Commercial chanels: ITV, Chanel 4 and 5 plus all the others still 10/10 but BBC 1,2,3, 4 and other related chanels etc from rubbish (picture pixal brake up and distorted sound) to none existant (invalid chanel message on a blank screeen).

Robert Towning: Assuming that are using Waltham, HD will not be transmitted from there until the second stage of the switchover on the 31st of this month. You should though be receiving BBC far better than any of the other channels, as the BBC multiplex is on high power.
I suspect that the EPG1 BBC you are receiving is from elsewhere, so either carry out a signal check which should indicate the EPG1 Mux channel, or have a look up in the 800 ranges to check if another BBC is indicated there, or even just carry out a manual tune on Mux Ch61 (Waltham BBC1) to check what comes in.
If that procedure gives the desired result, the only way of storing BBC1 in the EPG 1 position is to first of all blank the memory of stored channels, this done by removing the aerial and carrying out a re-scan, then when complete re-connect the aerial and then as before carry out the manual tune on Mux Ch61 again, storing the results.
You can then select to add channels, this filling in the rest without upsetting the BBC already stored.
Some TV / boxes have an area selector in their tuning menu facilities, this cutting short the procedure, but they are all different to each other brand dependant so its difficult to give precise instructions.

I live in Derbyshire and use, I believe, a transmitter in Nottingham - we had the analogue turned off earlier this week and had to retune all digital channels.
Since then the reception on BBC1 had been terrible, it will be fine for a few minutes then picture will freeze, sound will go and it will lose the signal all together for a few seconds then it is back. ITV and other channels seem fine - only BBC is a problem, it was fine before I had to re-tune. Any idea what I can do about this

Paul Curran: I think you will be receiving the transmitter in Waltham, not the Nottingham transmitter as that switched on 30th March and 13th April 2011.
It may be that as the signal has increased at Waltham from 10kW to 50kW then the new higher powered signal is too strong for your aerial and TV.
Brian who runs this website will probably advise you to remove any amplifiers from your aerial system if you have any.
If you don't, try fitting an aerial attenuator. This will help bring the signal down to a more usable level without overloading your system. They can be bought from Maplin and some DIY stores for about £5.

you have probably picked up the belmont transmitter bbc's signal?
if you can check, you will find frequency ch 22 as being stored,
your bbc channels will be in the 800 channel numbers?
you need to factory reset your equipment and then manual tune frequency ch 61 into memory then auto add channels the rest.
