The symbol shows the location of the Durris (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) transmitter which serves 180,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Durris (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) mast?

Hi, I have just moved into a house just outside Ballater (postcode AB35 5SB). Currently using the Tullich transmitter which only provides a very small portion of the Freeview channels.

Am I likely to get reception from the Durris transmitter with its full range of channels?

Dave:

Yes, you should get good reception from Durris. It's predicted to be good for the PSBs and a little less so for the COMs, especially ArqB/COM6 which could be Varuiable to Good. Have a look at which way your neighbours aerials are pointing to see how they get on. Reception might vary a bit across your postcode.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info, there's not too many neighbours here, but I'll take a look.

At least you've given me some hope :-)

For the last 2wks we have signal problems at our house at AB338BH. Initially returned from holiday and TV reported no channels. Rescan completed and missing all BBC channels plus more. Followed guides above and no improvement. TV aerial is in front garden on fence, this had not changed although some plants had grown taller so tried lifting the aerial higher, rescan, still no further channels found. No faults or work reported for Durris mast.

Amy: If the cable runs into the house and to one TV then a few possibilities spring to mind:

1. The centre core of the coax has broken at some point, whether where it connects onto the aerial or at the connector at the TV end. Or it has broken somewhere along its length, in which case this may mean replacement of the coax.

2. A strand of the outer braid is touching the centre conductor at some juncture.

3. Some part of the aerial has broken, perhaps cracked.

Tuning information for Durris is:

PSB1 BBC A C28
PSB2 D3&4 C25
PSB3 BBC B C22
COM4 SDN C23
COM5 Arq A C26
COM6 Arq B C30

You should attempt manual scan of these channels. The "C" number is the UHF channel number (frequency) to tune to. The multiplexes are sometimes referred to as "PSB#" or "COM#" or using the name of the operator, and I have given both.

The list of Freeview programme channels is here. You can work out which multiplexes you are short of and try doing a manual scan for them:

Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview

Once you have all the channels stored, don't retune as all this does is wipe the memory. With the tuning in place then any failure to show a picture is a fault elsewhere and resetting and retuning results in two problems: an untuned TV and no signal.

Free view has become random. Through thr day reads no signal as my Ariel is internal and checks are made considering tv two years of age. I conclude that work from developments in the surrounding area is affectedting or the public is being manipulated to go sky . Which ever the case I am sure freeveiw will resume later tonight.

Lorraine Reid:

As per the post before yours, the Durris transmitter is subject to Planned Engineering. If you are in a weaker signal area with an internal/ loft aerial, that is the most likely cause, but as you haven't given a full postcode we can't advise on that.
I doubt very much that there's any "manipulation" whatsoever.
And in any event, if Freeview reception in your locale was that bad, then there's always Freesat to consider. Most newer TVs have a satellite tuner, so all you'd need is a dish and LNB!
