I bought my Freeview HD box a number of months ago in anticipation that I would receieve RTE channels in Belfast - BT12 6EG, however I have been very disappointed as I am unable to receive any RTE channels. I have restored factory settings, reinstalled and updated channel lists on my i-Can Easy HD 2851T Freeview HD Set Top Box. I have also noticed that when I rescanned some channels appeared on the search list but did not appear on the TV menu. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Sinead: To tune in the RT/TG4 channels, go to the manual tuning function. If there is an option to select the mode, ensure that it is set to DVB-T2 rather than DVB-T. Then select UHF channel 39. Don't press the button to scan/add channels just yet; if it gives an indication as to strength/quality on that channel note what it is.
The signal that carries RT/TG4 is broadcast from Black Mountain whereas the other Freeview channels come from Divis. Because the two are close together, for many people this is OK because they are in roughly the same direction and hence one aerial will work for both.
Because you are so close the two transmitters are 41 degrees apart. This could perhaps pose an issue. If so, then maybe turning the aerial slightly anti-clockwise (towards Black Mountain) might help.
Failing that, you may be able to receive NI Mux with a second aerial on Black Mountain or Carnmoney Hill. Or, having looked at Streetview, some of your neighbours have aerials on Clermont Carn in the Republic. These will provide all Saorview channels which your Freeview HD box will work with:

Lorri Henry: They are almost inline from your location which wouldn't be expected to cause a problem.
The only observation I will make, and I'm not at all sure that this will act to your detriment, is that the Larne transmitter also uses C39, albeit that it is vertically polarised, whereas Divis/Black Mountain is horizontally so. You may be able to adjust or replace your aerial or you may be able to receive the NI Mux using a second aerial pointing to Carnmoney Hill which might be available at your location.

Hi,
Can somebody help? I cannot pick up all freeview channels. Channels SDN, ArqA, ArqB are missing. It looks that here is very high signal (BT13 3WG) and/or interference from wires of high voltage(?) which are only few meters from house. (54.6054,-5.9849)

I have a Freeview HD TV that has picked up all the RTE channels including RTE 2 HD on CH 52. Unfortunately the signal strength looks about 8% whereas the quality is about 85% or more. The picture breaks up a lot. Is there anything I can go to get strength up. I have a seperate RTE aerial from 15yrs ago installed on roof. I can see no way to het the NIMM transmissions. My postcode is BT8 8RU near Carryduff.

I came across an I Can box whilst retuning on wedensday. I was asked to look at it as it did not pick up RTE.
I tried to tune it for the person who bought it but it would not even let me into the menu.
I think they may need a software update.

Kevin have you got a mast amplifier for the RTE aerial? General rule I have found if you were getting a good analogue signal from the South before DSO all should be ok if it was fuzzy then not so good.
Another route you could go would be saorsat which would mean a dish and freesat HD box this would get you all Irish channels apart from TV3.

Thanks Dave, I selected manual scan it only appears as RF channel 39 not UHF channel 39, no strength or quality appeared. The box is set to DVB-T2 mode. I will try and get the aerial adjusted and let you know how I get on.
Thanks Carl, I updated the software last night on the I Can box it is Version 020711. It is really annoying as I expected a rush for the boxes and thought I was well prepared buying in advance.
