Freeview reception at BT26 6HS

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Simon: This box has automatically addressed you, so I don't know if that is correct. From new, our Sony 1TB PVR has had to be manually tuned to Emley Moor, Yorkshire, as it prefers to look over the Pennines and 100 miles further to Carlisle, to pick up the weak signal from NW TV. The list of numerical MUXs I had appears to have been superceded by acronyms, COM5 etc which I don't understand. Can anyone help please? The list I was using is: 41, 44, 47, 48, 51,52. but even this won't overide the NW tendency. The Sony TV doesn't appear to suffer the same problem.
The store has since closed down but denied any problem from new.A with all problems, we are the only people in the known universe to have experienced this.
Help please, Jack

Jack: The names of the format "PSB#" and "COM#" are post digital-switchover labels. Each multiplex has its own title, a proper noun. I have given these below along with corresponding UHF channel numbers for Emley Moor.

A more detailed explanation of the different names is here: Why do the six Freeview "multiplexes" have twenty different names?

UHF channels for Emley Moor are as you have quoted, although several others have started up since then on lower power but which at least some of you might receive in Acaster Malbis.

Channels are:

PSB1 - "BBC A" - BBC One - C47
PSB2 - "D3&4" - ITV - C44
PSB3 - "BBC B" - BBC One HD - C41
COM4 - "SDN" - ITV3 - C51
COM5 - "Arq A" - Pick - C52
COM6 - "Arq B" - 4Music - C48
COM7 - "COM7 (HD)" - CBeebies HD/BBC Four HD - C32
COM8 - "COM8 (HD)" - QVC+1 HD - C34

You "may" also be able to receive the local Leeds multiplex on C56, which broadcasts directionally rather than omni-directionally) towards Leeds, and therefore in your direction.

Digital UK publishes a full list of terrestrial services by multiplex, which it identifies by their proper nouns. You can click the headings to order by that heading:

Digital UK Industry - Channel listings

I am a technical bod so I would some general suggestions:

1. See if your receiver has a region setting. It could be that the region it's giving you is first alphabetically, the "Yorkshire" of Emley Moor probably being the last. This might need changing.

2. It might be tuning to Caldbeck because it is on the lowest UHF channel number and therefore found first.

One way of getting it to automatically tune to Emley Moor might be to have the aerial out for the first 30% or until it gets past UHF channel 30 during its scan. With this method you might need to go back and use manual tuning to add C32 and C34 if the aerial isn't in soon enough.

PSB Channels have been disrupted (and are at this moment 31st October1558 - down since 1555) several times in the last 24 Hours, with long periods of no signal at all. This is not a specific to one property, but experienced also by my neighbours. We do NOT share aerial installations

Only just found this response, David Lindsay: thank you very much, this is the information I was seeking.
The 'Region setting' was not enough to overide the NW selection but I'd forgotten the 'remove aerial for the first lot of channels', as advised by the last aerial man.
I have printed off your information and will store it in 'safe place'.
Thanks again; Jack

I live in Newhaven, the Newhaven transmitter is a so called light transmitter and we can only receive about 8 Freeview channels, due to the geographical location of Newhaven in a valley) very few people can receive Whitehawk (The Brighton Full transmitter), given that new Freeview channels are appearing all over the place now, is there any danger that the Newhaven transmitter will be upgraded? I've tried contacting Freeview who say my beef is with Ofcom so I tried contacting them but they don't return calls, what is a body to do?

Terry Brennan:

Try writing to Ofcom - but don't hold your breath. Look at Contacting Ofcom | Ofcom for their contact details.
