My Sony/Toyota car radio, which seems to pick up all other channels fine, some months ago started finding it hard to get R4. Does not seem to switch transmitters when travelling and can only receive R4 in towns, eg Bath or Bristol. Moving between them loses signal. Has been fine for years and I cant believe its the tuner as all other stations work fine. Anyone else had this problem?

My reception in Bath (BA1) has been terrible for the last year or so. Quality interrmittent, some channels I cant receive at all some days and hardly ever able to get HD channels. I'm high up, have had 2 ariel firms in, have new high gain ariel and have replaced ariel distribution amp but to little avail. Have a number of different makes of high end TVs and PVRs - Humax seems to be the worst! When engineers have measured the signal strength it seems to be good but they do warn that there's a fairly narrow acceptability band for digital and too strong a signal can be as bad as too little!

I too have been having trouble with freeview (from Mendip) not adjusting start and end times anymore. Most annoying and frustrating. I have two different top end Humax PVRs and smase has been happening with both.

Yes, I've been getting "No Signal" bursts too for some weeks now. I also find the freeview programme guides very slow to load (same on 3 TVs and 2 PVRs. Never used to have these problems.

Much mention here of a wideband ariel but how can one tell which ariel you have? Visually? Had mine upgraded a couple of years ago. Previous was like most of the ones around my location - many short "uprights" same size on a long beam with a smallish reflector on the rear. New one much more like an old VHF radio ariel. Thanks.

Thanks Chris, indeed I WAS looking at my ancient radio ariel!! Duh! New TV one IS on the chimney, is stable and feeds a number of rooms in my house via an amplified distribution device (which is also relatively new). Ariel is similar to the old one but with a larger reflector and points to Mendip and is some way away from th radio one. Can't see the colours - I'll have to dig out some old binoculars. Generally good reception, just puzzled with freeview problems. ie When I set a recording and the transmition times change my PVRs do'nt always adjust their start/stop times accordingly (as they always used to). Anyone else have this problem? (Using latest Humax PVRs - they couldn't explain why! David (BA1 5JL)
