The difference between DAB and FM is noticeable even on a small mono portable radio.

FM has a far warmer and more fuller sound quality.

FM also has advantages for listeners at some distance from the transmitter. DAB is either there or it isn't, and you get that annoying burbling noise/break up in borderline areas.

FM on the other hand (like AM) simply fades out. You may find you lose stereo, or there's a bit more hiss, but that's it. At least FM and AM are more listenable at greater distances.

I'm not sure how DRM and DRM+ fare in these respects, but the rush to ditch FM is premature in my opinion.

Like everything else, it's probably driven by commercial interests and economics rather than what's best for the listener.

Yep, I'm also in Jordanstown Ian and Mux 2 is also the same as mux 1.

Mind you, Clermont Cairn is stronger than Divis at this location.

Strangely, no UTV SD on SKY channel 178, which is odd.

No way of telling if 103 is UTV HD or not, but I can only assume that it is, .

Just checked again this afternoon and UTV HD is now on 103 and UTV SD on 178.

Must've started when I was out.

Michael: Check the coverage of Divis and Black Mountain on Digital UK's postcode checker. You'll certainly get the PSB channels, and probably the Com multiplexes as well.

It also shows at least marginal reception for the NI mux, so it might be worth putting something up for Divis rather than the Conlig relay.

Failing that, Saorsat would be the best option if you don't want to pay Sky or Virgin:

If your Divis aerial is diplexed with an RTE aerial just make sure you're not picking up Carnmoney Hill off the side of the beam Samantha. Have a look in the 800's just to see if UTV etc. is there.

This does happen on an initial scan on some of my boxes (even though Divis is the stronger signal) and if you're experiencing this (Carnmoney Hill would be fairly weak in your area) you may have to do a manual scan to restore the channels such as UTV etc.

Samantha: Might be better to get someone out to have a look at your aerial set up just to make sure it isn't damaged.

At your location you should be receiving perfect reception from Divis, the NIMux at Black Mountain, and Saorview from Clermont Cairn.

I'd recommend Newtownabbey Aerials. Reasonably priced and he knows what he's doing.

You need a Freeview HD set top box or television in order to receive RTE or the NIMux from Black Mountain.

Kieran: I don't think any of that's the cause of Samantha's problems. We're simply beating around the bush here.

She should have perfect reception from Divis and the NI mux from Black Mountain, as well as Saorview from Clermont Cairn (try Digital UK's postcode checker if you don't believe me). Mt Leinster shouldn't even come onto the equation in Carrick.

and fine, if you don't want me to mention a specific installer that's no problem.

However, I'd have a look through Yellow Pages and get someone out (whoever she chooses). Looks like an aerial problem to me. Something like a loose connection or possibly water ingress.

You can spend a lot of time messing around with this type of thing and get nowhere. Better to get a professional to sort out the problem in my opinion.

For want of repeating myself, Divis should be absolutely no problem for someone living in Carrick.

Strangely, the Humax STBs have the opposite problem. Sound is much louder on the HD channels.

No sign of anything on channel 33 from Divis, despite a retune being scheduled for next Tuesday.
