Lost all the BBC signals this evening. Conditions ?

Thought it might be Newcastle Brian.

James: Think there was some confusion over Maddybenny More as it was thought this would get into the town. Obviously Ballycastle must be the last of the 7 sites. It was specifically mentioned as one of the 7 new transmitters destined for NI, so if it's not Maddybenny More, there must be an additional one planned for the town itself.

What about non Freesat mode Brian ? Surely all the radio stations on Sky are free to air and available in non freesat mode ?

Also, I don't think BBC London is on Freesat in NI. Is it on the fReesat EPG in other regions outside the London area ?

James: Probably because you have a group A aerial and not a wideband one.

When DSO is comple a group A aerial should be fine for Divis.

Which channels are missing ?

Craig: Currently, a wideband aerial horizontally polarized is needed. After DSO a group A aerial horizontally polarized is needed.

The Cambret Hill transmitter seems stronger recently, and I've been getting signal strengths of between 95-100 % on my Philips freeview box, even during the heavy rain and bad weather over the last few days.

This evening I decided to have a go at getting the HD channels on my Humax Freeview HD box. Low and behold, they were all there (even though they don't show on my Philips SD box). Strangely, I'm also receiving the HD channels in the 800's as well.

Not sure how long this inreased signal strength will last for but the Freeview HD does look good, although I think the HD channels on my Amstrad Sky box seem better.

A question for Freeview user in Scotland
Friday 22 July 2011 6:33PM

If they did away with Rabbit and Gay Rabbit would that leave enought room for the radio stations ?

Think the idea about BBC partiment is probably the best solution.

Wonder if they'll try something like this with TG4 in NI after DSO here ?

If all these speculated servicres come onto Freesat Brian, then it's very good news for those viewers in Freeview Lite areas.

It makes Freesat far more appealing than Freeview, in my opinion. Why even bother with Freeview if the channels on Freesat are virtually the same ?

Lets hope the speculated HD channels come true (includung UTV HD by the way).

"Don't make any assumptions about who, if anyone, will get the Channel 6 local TV allocation. This is all out for consultation at the moment."

If NVTV don't get it Brian, does this mean they'll be forced to close down post DSO ?

I can't imagine Ofcom allowing them to continue on analogue.

Upgrading from Sky to Freesat | Freesat
Wednesday 31 August 2011 11:17AM

bobbob:Yes. Just disconnect the Sky box and replace it with the equivalent Freesat one.

Brian: Freesat will work without any problems in Cushendall.

Post DSO (at the end of next year), the local transmitter in your area will Freeview Lite so Freesat will be a far better option. Some channels that are on Freeview but not Freesat (5*, 5USA etc. ), may possibly come onto Freesat soon with the recent launch of Astra 1N.

You should also be able to receive Saorsat in Cushendall, when it's up and running, which hopefully will be soon.
