Angie Matthews: No.

Get a freesat hd pvr instead, £200 (ish) one off cost and you use the same satellite dish and cables, etc.

Sutton Coldfield doesn't have HD at present, anything you've seen in HD on Freeview was only for test, the service won't officially launch there until digital switchover.

The only transmitters with HD, as part of the 'advance network' (used largely for testing) on Freeview are Pontop Pike, Crystal Palace, Lichfield, Emley Moor and Black Hill. Only after digital switchover will HD be avaiable nationwide on Freeview. If you want HD now, get Freesat HD.

Humax FOXSAT-HD freesat HD | Freesat
Thursday 6 January 2011 9:45AM

I've noticed that sometimes the box will crash the display output via HDMI when the input or output video resolution changes between 576, 720 or 1080, it's annoying but a small price to pay for an otherwise very cool box. If changing the V-Format on the humax doesn't work, try turning your TV off and on again using the TV remote, that usually sorts it out.

That said, I've not forced a software update yet, so that may fix it.

Upgrading from Sky to Freesat | Freesat
Friday 7 January 2011 9:10AM

Yes. I upgraded from standard Sky box to Freesat + HD (a Humas Foxsat HDR) on Boxing day, it took 5 minutes to install and is brilliant. It's SO much better, should have done it a long time ago! In comparison to Sky subscription, it will have paid for itself by March and I think it's actually a bit better.

Whitehawk will be on reduced power until the 21st in order to accomodate some engineering. then there's a bit more work happening on the 25th (affecting radio and channel 5).

Mendip (Somerset, England) Full Freeview transmitter

Higher modulation = greater compression... higher liklihood of drop-out, interference, etc. Get Freesat instead, it's just easier.

Freeview used to be all 64QAM, which was why it was rubbish under ITV Digital... all the BBC bits are 16QAM now, which is why they're better.

David . You will not get anything from Crystal Palace at all, the view is blocked by the North Downs! If you want HD now, get Freesat and a dish.

Dover (Kent, England) Full Freeview transmitter
Wednesday 23 February 2011 9:13AM

This is because the back-up mast was being used. The main S1 mast was re-installed yesterday (by helicopter - how cool?), so analogue signal should be back to normal.

Sorry, I've just been told that the helicopter due to drop this mast in place was unable to take off yesterday due to fog. Not sure when this will be rescheduled - but I'll see if I can find out :)
