The Wrekin (Telford and Wrekin, England) transmitter

I am in the north Shropshire area at SY13 2BT, and the house has three cheap, (and old), Alba STB8 digital set top boxes feeding analogue TV's. Recently the channel allocations were changed on our local transmitter so I did a retune to delete the original channels and get new ones. Despite still not being able to receive ITV4, which went after the last channel change months ago, presumably due to too weak a signal, we now have an issue with BBC2. Immediately after a full re tune BBC2 is present and correct, but after several minutes a box pops up saying something like "29 new channels found, 3 channels have stopped transmitting" Press select to continue. as soon as you press select BBC2 is no longer available. It does the same on all 3 boxes. We have also lost BBC3 and BBC 4 entirely, even immediately after a re tune So, from hoping for a signal increase and the return of Dave and ITV4, we have still lost those, and effectively lost three more channels. There does not appear to be a firmware upgrade available off air. Any ideas? We have another box in the spare room, and that, despite still not picking up a signal for ITV4 or Dave, picks up BBC2 (from the same aerial and distribution amplifier) after the re tune. There is a wideband multi element in the loft of the bungalow, with a good quality amplifier feeding the boxes from 4 of its six ports.

Is my only option to buy new boxes? I am tempted to put a dish up and go Freesat, so I can get ITV4 again, and hopefully Dave, too, which has some motor sport on occasionally.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Does anyone using the Wrekin transmitter receive ITV4 and Dave now the change overs are complete? I was hoping the increases power would return at least ITV4, which we enjoyed before the start of the shenanigans, but no, still unavailable here near Prees with a big loft aerial that got it many months ago fine. Thanks.

Briantist: Thanks for the reply, I will once again be patient awaiting ITV4 and Dave's return. Great site, sincere thanks for the efforts all make to help us Neanderthals out :)

Derek: What channels can you not receive? I am in Lower Heath, near Prees and have been unable to get Dave, ITV4 and others for many months. The recent channel re-allocation made no difference. I too have high gain aerial AND a booster, but no joy. I believe in the Autumn there will be a signal power boost, if that doesn't bring them in I will have to put a dish up and go for Freesat.

crystal marshall: This is what vets do to make a living, I would have thought the chance of seeing this sort of thing might be expected when watching a programme about veterinarians at work in some hell hole :) Castrating animals is probably a large part of a farm vets work, probably a small animal vets work, too. Don't worry, I doubt the vet felt a thing :)

Is the Wrekin transmitter now on full power? I believed a power hike was planned for September 2011, and was hoping this would bring in Dave and ITV4, which have been unavailable here since the start of the switch over proceedings. No reception as of this AM. Thanks.

Freeview since power upgrade last night on the Wrekin transmitter.

ITV4 is now back, but not 100% stable, with some drop outs. Dave, sadly and annoyingly, still shows no signal at all. I am at SY13 2BT and have a high gain and booster in the loft roof space of a bungalow. Before all the change overs both Dave and ITV4 were received with no issues. The problem is most definitely NOT one of too strong a signal ;)I am undecided whether to try a chimney mounted aerial or try pointing the loft aerial at one of the other two transmitters that we might be able to receive. Sod's Law states that on the signal maps our place seems smack in the middle of a tiny bad signal region for all the transmitters :( Moving is not an option though ;) Apart from should I just put a dish up and go for Freesat, my question is will a cheap Ebay signal strength meter be sufficient for a DIY aerial re-orientation?

This is a great resource, thank you Briantist!
