As has been said so many times down leads are as important if not more important than your aerial.
TX100 OR EQ.min
Dont think just because you have a nice looking aerial mounted on a wall bracket that is drilled on your chimmney stack, that shouldnt have been mounted there in the first place is meaning your reception is A1, because your proberly wrong.
1st A wall bracket is designed to be mounted on a wall.
2nd a chimmney mount is lashing wire thats wound round a chimmney stack with a bracket thats held by the wires, reasons for this are to balance the strain on the stack, because its a single brick assembly thats acually not that strong.
Maybe people like the CAI should look at these simple things because many members of there memberships dont seem to know the difference between the two.
I mean after all just check a advert on the top of this page, a lovely picture of the royal crescent, then another click... and what do we have, a rigger mounting a wall bracket on a chimmney pot of a listed building, made of no less than soft Bath stone, that says it all.
To be honest im so suprised that even the most basics of skills that i teached so many years ago have been negelected.
I personally do alot of work for trusts in Bath and would be kicked off site if i produced some of the workmanship i see today.

Dave

Mark Your out of touch mate
For a job of that size and Jordys job I would have insisted on doing a proper survey with written specifications to the client right down to the last nut and bolt, which then theres no argument and the customer knows what he or she is getting for the money.
And because of the time spent doing that I most certainly and always do charge a fee which is returnable if or when i get the job.
By doing that its good for the customer and good for us dealers.
The only advise i can give is always make it clear to the client that there will be a charge, and of course it will vary depending on the size of the job and how far you need to travel.
Far as the run of the mill house I give free bold part quotes over the phone, if they except then the job is booked in, and if i can do it for what i quoted i get on with the job, if its more and they dont want it done which is very rare then of course its free of charge and i walk away,
But to be honest with you, often when i do these jobs they are lower than the phone quote anyway, so the customers are normally very happy.
It works for me and i been on the go since 1982, and my dad did the same which goes back to the mid 50s so its got to be right
All the Best
Dave

Hi Adrian
Sorry to here of your problems
It sounds to me if it was doomed before the job started.
The job should have been discussed ie price location of the dish etc before the ladders ever came off the van.
For a matter of interest did you give your card no to the company, because i think you will find if you did and its written on the back, your bank will have to clear the cq anyway, unless things have changed.
All i can advise is contact your bank first thing tomorow then you will know one way or the other.

Dave

Well Put Jon
In the west where i operate the normal price for a full Aerial rig is around £150.00 The same as for FreeSat Although some charge way beyond that.
For that off us all mounts are fully galvanized, not painted, masts are min 16g, Aerials Bench marked or top notch spec, All down leads are Tx100 we dont stock any lower standard, Where chimmney fixings are required we use proper lashing assemblys where possable, not wall brackets'' Are parts are mainly Triax, Labgear, ABC. All are work carries a 2 years parts and labour cover.
Im sure you will all agree thats good value for money from a very old established business.

Kind regards
David Pickering

There you go Dave I rest my case , In most situations you get what you pay for, But bare in mind that these riggers coming from another town are not going to do it for nothing, Either they are very short of work, or they are going to make a killing, thats why it always payes to stick to local known business that have been around for a very long time.
Remember it takes years of good trading to get a good name, but over night you can get a bad name by the tilt of a hat.
These boys working out of there local citys villages etc dont care because they come and go home, If thing get bad for them they just change there trading names, its been going on since the year dot in most trades.

Ref Elaine
Does make me and the lads grin when we here satellite grade cable quoted, whats all that about?
Its like saying how long is a bit of string.
They should be quoting cable reference numbers, but of course if they did it would open up a different ball game, because half the riggers dont know the difference in grade cables let alone the customers lol.
