Mary: Indications are that you can receive programmes from two stations, these being Emley Moor and Belmont. The problem as I see it is that you are quite a distance from both stations, that is 24mls from Emley and 41mls from Belmont, so Emley would appear your best bet.

It should be pointed out though that both stations are still pre-switchover and as such transmitting on low power, something I would expect could well cause problems at your distance, however Emley Moor is due to switch to high power operation starting on September 7th and finalising on the 21st, so
if you are wishing to use the Freeview service then it would be worthwhile having your aerial attended to.

It would also be interesting to know where you were receiving Freeview from when it was working, does your aerial point to the East or West, West being Emley Moor.

Chris: Rectifying problems on non-Freesat boxes can be a nightmare, but "if" your model is the 28260ALD (made by Tevion)I would rescan it again using the procedure seen on the web link, but starting at paragraph 13 and ignoring everything that precedes it.

I realise it may of course not be that model, but just thought it worth mentioning in case it was.

Chris: I think it may have been better if I had included the link, sorry about that!

Chris: Judging by all you have tried doing to rectify the problem without having any success, now indicates to me the possibility that the actual box has developed a fault and as such will have to be returned to source.

Before you do though, and although I feel that it may not make any difference, but it would be interesting to know the result if you temporarily tried the box coupled into a different satellite dish, as these boxes (or all) work on any dish.

Barry: Yes, Les Nichol's suggestion of trying a manual set up is a good idea, I suspect though that it may be the 23000 symbol rate setting that might cause a problem as thats not offered as a choice in some equipment, so will be interested to learn whether or not it does in your case.

Sean: Thanks for the update on the situation regarding your Sagem PVR 7280, as although I wasn't 100% sure that compatibility with the new 8K transmission mode was the cause of your problem, I was however aware that these boxes had a bad reputation for reliability in various ways, and of course it was a bit too much of a coincidence that these problems only started after the mode change.

Your confirmation of this will be a useful addition to the notebook!

Eddie: You haven't mentioned what brand of box you are referring to, but basically boxes do not require to be left plugged in all the time to retain channels as they are stored in their memory, that is if "store" was selected after you had scanned and found the channels? as although some boxes may store them automatically some don't, and it requires the user to select this.

Steven C: This would strongly suggest that your equipment is not capable of responding to the 8K transmission mode that came into effect at switchover, have a check at the tuner specification shown in your devices operating manual.

If it only shows 2K then unfortunately there is nothing you can do about this, as its not rectifiable.

paul omozik: The satellite dish will have no effect on your system. You should carry out a signal strength / quality check on Humax box concerned, as your problem would appear to be caused more by the signal going into the box being a bit on the weak side, so if its fed from your set up upstairs it should be done via a two way powered splitter.

Richard: Are you positive that its Astra 2 you are receiving at 28.2 degrees and not Astra at 19.2, as they are only a fraction of a movement away from each other.

Try manually punching in some of the frequencies for the channels you want as seen on the link provided.
