Martin: The problem referred to is likely to be related to the wave of high pressure which is currently sweeping across the whole of Ireland, this also affecting Western coastal areas of Scotland as well as the Southern same of England.

As far as Northern Ireland (only) is concerned, the high pressure zone is forecast (AK: William Hepburn) as not clearing the area until late Sunday evening, returning for a brief spell late on Wednesday (27th) / Thursday (28th) before clearing away again later that day.

Full technical details of Freeview

Nigel: Belmont at approx 43 miles / 107 degrees is indicated as providing the best signal level in your area over that from Emley Moor @ 21 miles/ 283 degrees, the station your aerial is possibly facing towards?.

However, although your aerial might not be facing towards Belmont, its only around 5 degrees off what's known as reverse (or rear) pick up, some types of aerials being better than others when operating in this way, and so if your Freeview device has a "manual" tuning facility? you can use this to check if its worthwhile (or not) to swing your aerial around 180 degrees or so to face towards Belmont.

But though, "before" carrying out any tests it has to be ascertained that your Freeview device is capable of receiving HD transmissions, insomuch, are you able to view BBC HD 101-105 etc? because if not, this will be the reason for the 18 channel difference between your neighbours and you, likewise abandon the undermentioned.

However, should you be able to view those channels? carry out the following procedure.

Being, enter Mux 33 (Belmont's COM7) into the manual tuning box but do "not" press search or scan, as this allows the tuner time to indicate if any signal is being received no matter how low it might be. If though a signal of around 50% strength / quality is indicated, then press search or scan to store it in the EPG listings, although it will likely be stored up in the 800 range.

If successful, carry out the procedure again but this time enter C35 (Belmont's COM8).

Further advice as required.

kathy: One reason could possibly be that you are not within the coverage area of a COM7 (HD) transmitter, as not all main stations have these additional transmitters.

Unable to check if your location is outwith the coverage area or not as no location has been given, a post code or one from somewhere nearby being suffice.

Of course that said is on the assumption that your Goodmans Freeview plus box is capable of HD reception? as many aren't, an easy way to check being to ascertain if you can view 101, the BBC HD service.

John Mitchell: Yes, but its only being broadcast on PSB3 as a temporary measure during the Olympics, as BBC4 HD is moving to COM8 after same has ended.

Andrew Murphy : I suspect that its an error on this site, as the Vertical COM4/5/6 power levels are still indicated as being 200Kw everywhere else.

Briantist: Re; System malfunction caused by variation in Rowridge V/H power levels. Yes, this station is indeed oddball in this respect, however, said malfunctions can obviously occur in the best of systems, but with in my opinion, your site being relatively free of errors considering the complexity of same.

David Stewart: I feel that the 18 new channels picked up by "one" of your Humax's was purely due to reception conditions happening to be favourable at the time you carried out the scan, although you would have received BBC4HD whether it was or not, as this programme channel has been "temporarily" moved onto the PSB3 HD transmitter for the duration of the Olympic games, the purpose of being to enable the maximum number of viewers to follow to said games in HD.

The reason why I referred to "favourable reception conditions" is that the signal from the Durris transmitter is seen to suffer from four line-of-sight obstructions prior to reaching your area starting from just under 8 miles out, the most sizeable of the four being two miles long, said obstructions being the reason why reception in your area is only listed as being good on the three main PSB channels (BBC /ITV/ HD service), the COM's (SDN/ ArqA / ArqB) being in the category of "poor", with COM7/8 officially considered as not being receivable in your area.

However as far as your Humax's are concerned, are both fed via a two way powered splitter? and have you tried swapping their positions over followed by carrying out another auto-scan?. Another point being, have you checked that the powered aerial facility (via installation menu) is turned off on both machines?

Further advice as required.

BBC Four HD
Sunday 31 July 2016 12:02AM

John Mitchell: Yes, I fully agree with what you have said as I also view BBC4 HD offerings, however the whole idea is have all programmes in the future being broadcast from the more efficient DVB-T2 (HD) transmitters, the more commonly used DVB-T (SD) transmitters eventually being decommissioned.

David Carter: As far as I can gather, although the EPG number will remain the same, the programme is being moved from its temporary slot on PSB3 and transferred over to COM8, which of course unfortunately means that viewers who receive their signal via Stockland Hill will be unable to receive BBC4 HD, as this station is not one offering extended COM7 / COM8 HD services.
