Hi all!

Does anyone have any update on when Northern Visions TV will be available on Freeview in the greater Belfast area?

Hi PJH!

I was aware it is due to recommence broadcasting and the last date I saw for this recommencement was 9th September 2013. It was a case of the station raising the capital (cash) to pay the broadcasting fees to Arqiva. I was just wondering if they (NVTV) have raised the funds necessary.

Hi PJH!

BT28 is just outside Lisburn. I would think that Deirdre's aerial would be looking at Blackmountain and not to Clermont Carn. I had a look at DigitalUK site and a prediction regarding reception at BT28. Here is the link: Coverage Checker - Detailed View

I hope this helps.

Hi Dave!

If Paddy is able to receive transmissions from Black Mountain and from the discussion I take it that he is using a DVB-T2 receiver/set-top box, he may be able to receive Channel 39 (NIMM) TG4, RTE One and RTE Two plus RTE Raidio na Gaeltachta.

Another question - has he an aerial pointing to Clermont Carn - you were saying he could be receiving Clermont Carn from the back of his aerial which is pointing towards Black Mountain.

Hi Nicholas Willmott!

You query if anyone listens on A.M. nowadays! In Belfast - where I live - our first commercial station was Downtown Radio which commenced broadcasting in March 1976 in both A.M and F.M. At a later time the station moved frequency to 97.4MHz for its initial frequency of 96.6MHz. Due to the failure of the planned commercial station for Derry in 1983, Downtown ceased F.M. broadcasting to the Greater Belfast area on 97.4MHz F.M. to facilitate the introduction of a sister station Cool FM, aimed at a younger age group. Although Cool FM only broadcast on the 97.4MHz frequency in the Greater Belfast area, Downtown Radio continued to broadcast on 1026 kHz AM to a large part of Northern Ireland. Over the intervening years Downtown Radio were allocated additional F.M. frequencies across the country but have never been allocated a F.M. frequency on its own for the Greater Belfast area and as a consequence if you want to listen to Downtown Radio in Belfast A.M. is the only way.

It is true to say that Downtown Radio is available on DAB but the take up of DAB in Northern Ireland has been very poor.

Hi Liam!

Dave Lindsay is correct about receiving RTE from Blackmountain but if you are trying to receive Saorview you need an aerial (elements vertical) pointing towards Newry direction to receive Saorview as the transmitter is located at Clermont Carn near Omeath. This transmitter transmits on UHF Channel 52 and carries RTE1, RTE2, TV3, TG4, RTE News (from 7pm), 3e and during the daytime RTE Jr. (children's programming until 7pm) and RTE1+1. There are a selection of Radio channels: RTE Radio 1, RTE 2FM, RTE Lyric FM, RTE Radio na Gaeltachta, RTE Radio 1 Extra, RTE Pulse, RTE 2XM, RTE Gold and RTE Jr. Radio.

Now Channels are going to come at a later time on Channel 57 - no date as yet.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards

Kieran

Hi PJH!

I know there was some discussion about the second multiplex being on UHF Channel 56 but current information from this site indicates UHF Channel 57 (https://ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=SB173735)

Things may change in the next few months but I haven't heard anything at this time.

Regards

Kieran
