Not to put a downer on your Sony DVD recorder but I had a Sony Video recorder which I lost the menu on and the remote ceased to function. I reset to the manfacturers settings and the thing never worked again. If they are still using the same chipsets internally for menus and programming which highly likely, and there is a fault. Once reset the machine is locked out. I recycled mine. I hope you can fix it, best of luck.

martin: I believe those transmitters are low power relays. You might try pointing your aerial towards Sandy Heath North West of you. Otherwise the London transmitter. Sandy is 56km away but it is a main transmitter in the region of a Megawatt I think. The problem around Princes Risborough is all them Chiltern Hills. Hope it helps,I spent many years around that area trying to get decent pictures in the analogue era.

Jinny: From what I understand you will only get a limited number of channels if any. To use a sky box anywhere you need a freesat card for the sky box to enable it to pass thru the freesat channels. You pay for this card.
If you buy a freesat box which is not tied to sky you will receive at least 40 channels+ without needing a card. Sky can always change their stance and block these freesat cards.
Go with a freesat box I have and its great.
I'm in south West France.

I live in the SW of France and receive about 50 clear UK TV channels from a satellite dish aligned to 28.2 Astra "2D". If you have the old analogue setup which still works if you like German TV, so you must re-align your dish. I use a Humax Freesat box and a 80cm dish. Setup was easy. All I needed was my old UK postcode and it tuned into my local TV as if I was in the UK. I have also setup my old UK freeview box on a TV aerial and can receive about 10 French TV channels which is useful to improve my language skills. What more do I need? I have everything.
