One of the most common problems people have with Freeview reception relates to the use of "loft" aerials.

Ted Bellamy - SKY are in the business of subscription TV. However if you are not a subscriber you can obtain for a one off payment around £25 a FSFS (free sat from sky card) - If you wish to make use of the record play pause facility on your SKY Plus receiver you will have to subscribe to a monthly package to have this feature enabled. Alternatively you could consider buying your own "Freesat" receiver - the service supported by the BBC and ITV. Scroll up to the page header and click on the "Freesat" tab for options.
Whilst you can make use 0f your SKY dish to
re-align to other satellites it's design and size isn't the the best for this purpose and you would require an FTA (Free to Air receiver) to pick up European channel services.

Sandra - Yes provided you are out of the initial 12 months contract with SKY. Cost depends on the receiver you select - They are available from Argos, Comet, Curry's John Lewis PC World Independent Radio & TV dealers and On Line. They come in the following varieties and by different manufacturers.EG;-SD (standard definition) - HD (High definition) with single and twin tuner recordable versions. Priced from from £29.99 upwards dependent on choice. In most cases it's a straight swop over with you SKY box. But you may need a minor upgrade to the dish and wiring if you were to choose a recordable capable receiver where your dish isn't currently set up for that purpose.

Alexis Brown - In general terms yes. - You may have a problem if the LNB adapter doesn't match and you may need to change this to one that suits. They are inxpensive and can be had on auction sites, although if you have a satellite shop near you then probly best to acquire there to get a proper match.

Amfagan - Your mother could use a Technisat "Freesat" receiver utilising a single feed from the existing communal dish. This is a single tuner receiver which requires a high capacity pen drive or alternatively an external Laptop Hard Drive. The receiver has USB ports front and back to plug either of these into. This difference between this and a SKY or Freesat twin tuner is that it can only record one channel whilst watching another rather than two. The Freesat service is supported by the BBC and ITV therefore no subscription required. You cannot access the SKY Pay per View Channels if that's what she is after. Technisat HDFS HD receiver is £120 with 3year warranty plus the cost of a storage drive. It will connect directly to the wall socket outlet.

S.M.Davies - Mike Dimmick> The Foxsat HDR functions as the Freeview 9200T. I've not used this before but carried out this function in recording and pausing tonights episode of "Waking the Dead" with Trevor Eve and Sue Johnstone. It confirms this capability

James Paterson - No change of aerial is required if you already have an existing external aerial - Boosters that were fitted to external aerials for analogue reception either may require these remmved or attenuated - Internal loft aerials are not suitable for satisfactory Digital TV reception. If Briantist who runs the site can offer up more clarity on this that might help you further I am sure if he reads this post he will do so.
Brian may also offer up further advice on any current transmitter issues for you with regards to Blackhill.
