Transmitter: Crystal Palace

I have not been able to receive channel 33 (BBC4HD, BBCNews24HD etc) for some months now. Neither by 2-year old smart tv (Panasonic) or Humax PVR (bought a few days ago) can tune into the channel. I have tried all the factory reset, manual tune proposed solutions to no avail. I bought a new co-ax cable, and our block has recently had a new aerial installed. Nothing has worked. Please help.

Micheal Fife: As you would appear to be connected into a communal aerial system its advisable to check if any of the other residents in the apartment block are able to receive this channel, especially as a new aerial system has been fitted, as the distribution amplifier used by same has possibly been maladjusted, as the symptoms reported are inclined to suggest an excessively high signal level being fed into the aerial socket from the Crystal Palace transmitter located at approximately 3 miles away.

High signal level problems can usually be cured with the aid of an attenuator in line with the aerial socket, but though this should not be necessary for viewers connected into a communal aerial system, as the level is (or should) be preset on the distribution amplifier.

Over the last few days the TV signal has been reduced to weak or no signal. The only channels I am getting as far as I can work out are on your channel 23.
I have checked all my connections and they appear to be in good order. Random times during the day or night the signal returns to full and I get all channels and then for no reason they dissapear again.

Phillip:

To stand any chance of offering useful help we need your full post code. Only then can we determine what the reception conditions are like at your home location. No post code - no help possible.

I have been losing ARQA (UHF 22) channels completely several times in the last couple of days. I suspect the freezing fog ? I doubt the amplifier might cause only the lowest frequency band to fail.
I live in Hutton Brentwood CM13. Newish Aerial on roof with amplifier.

Francis Caves: Why the fog? If your losing a mux, check the rest of the system - dodgy cable, etc.

I've seen loads of people blaming the weather, but unless its a inversion system, its almost certainly people's own systems.

Francis Caves:

Many areas are affected by the current weather patterns and loss of one or more channels does not seem unusual in the circumstances. DO NOT RETUNE as that will lose what channels you currently have. The weather affect can be fairly localised, and depends on which other transmitter signals are interfering with the wanted signals.

Hi HD Provider,
Hopefully you can assist. We have a Samsung HD TV, the aeriel is located on the chimney stack approximately 10 metres above ground level. The HD signal has been perfect until the past two weeks when the hd vision has broken up, picture freeze and then blank screen followed by a message of week signal strength/aeriel disconnected. Aeriel connections have been checked and they are fine and have not been disturbed. My post code is N9 9SP
Can you assist please.
Best regards,
Mike Jenner

Firstly, I think you need to make sure only the website gets your email address - we certainly dont?

Ok - check actual signal strength and what transmitter your tuned into. It could be your on the wrong one. If the signal is too high (and your just 22km from Crystal Palace), that can look much the same as too low. See 'too much of a good thing' on this website.

And check the signal path back - a lose connection or frayed cable can really cause problems, as I found out today when trying to get the cats cradle of a system in the loft of my new house to work after the electrician had been!
