I am unable to get a consistent signal for Channel 24, ITV 4 ( and several other channels). We receive the transmission through the Bilsden transmitter and the BT engineer advised bme that there has been ongoing work for some time and the finish date is unknown. Any thoughts on how I can boost the channel?

Well done ITV 4 you have the best team of all others to cover the tour.. The right mix of actual racing experience at the top level.

A suitable mix of background information from riders who have "been there and done it" together with a little light entertainment with the " Pat & Mike.act " thrown-in !

Altogether an ideal team, don't change a thing, but if you reduce the amount of commercials, I won't complain !

Sincerely, Mr. B A Duly, A former amateur roadman.

I have recently set up a Samsung smart TV for my mother in law at the Abbeyfield at Bootle in Cumbria.
The picture quality is great but I was really surprised to find that ITV4 , several following channels and a lot of others are just not there.
I've retuned it a couple of times and still getting lots of missing channels.
The settings are for England as the primary region with Borders as the secondary.
I thought if you got Freeview you'd get them all.
Any ideas what might be going wrong

Jeff: I've taken the postcode as LA19 5UE.

The Commercial (COM) channels (those that are unavailable in Bootle) are not available to all who can receive Freeview -- they are carried by 81 of the largest transmitters and there's no chance of using an alternative transmitter which carries all channels in Bootle. Indeed, judging by predictions and the terrain, reception could be flakey, owing to not having line-of-sight with both Gosforth or Whitehaven transmitters, this being obstructed by the high ground over which the A595 runs, south of Swallowhurst.

I have covered why we have a two-tier system here:

I am constantly having trouble with itv 4 and RT television and receive BBC channels very good! The aerial information here seems to be identical for each of those services as they are both from Crystal Palace and at the same power. So why am I constantly having trouble with those 2 channels as they are both received from the same aerial and digital receiver?
I have read about looking at connections and wiring but if the BBC channels are O.K. then so should ITV4 and RT.

Any helpful comment would be appreciated.

Anthony: In answer to your question: because in the real world everything that is in the surroundings is having some effect and therefore in practice it can be the case that reception appears different on different channels. The objective is to get a spot where reception is good on all channels.

The only way all different frequencies, which are broadcast from the same point and which are identical in all other ways, are received identically would be if there were no objects in the surroundings -- no ground, no buildings, no trees -- and there was a vacuum.

Just about all of the digital channels have disappeared from both my HD box and my TV. A channel search on my TV shows around 20 channels, well down on what it was first thing this morning. I was watching the BTCC coverage on CH24 and it eventually disappeared completely. My signal comes from Durris to AB21 and is normally OK. What is going on?

ITV4 is now a fully national channel as from 25/08/2015.
My Freeview box has just updated the channel list and I now have ITV4.
Yes now ITV4 is a national channel.
Surprised they didn't pick ITV3 to be national, but thank God they didn't add ITV2+1,
as we have enough single multi-transmitted channels.
EG. ITV1, ITV1 HD and ITV1+1 all show the same programs.

By National, I mean it is on a public service broadcast multiplex. (Freeview Light)
