That's Solent still seem to be ridden with technical problems. On 12.2.15 they were not able to broadcast Solent News at 5 p.m. and instead we heard the conversation of technicians and floor staff in panic conversation. They are evidently still not able to get to grips with the technology. They should surely call in the experts.

How about an article on Whitley Shopping Centre. The old centre was pulled down and the site re-done because it was an economic failure. The New site is full of designer shops and restaurants and frankly is yet another disaster. It is on top of a hill and open to the wind with no shelter from the wind or the elements. It is a designers dream and a shoppers Nightmare. The drawings show it full of people and reality is it is virtually empty. Many of the shops that were there on day 1 have already gone.

Portsmouth public spaces back breastfeeding welcome scheme

PORTSMOUTH public spaces have backed the city's fast expanding Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme.
More than 40 cafes, restaurants, children's centres, museums, libraries and GP surgeries across the city are now signed up to the scheme to welcome Portsmouth mums who want to breastfeed in public.
Portsmouth breastfeeding awareness worker Charlotte Raw said she was delighted with the success of the scheme in the city and was looking to sign up even more venues.
"This is making a real difference to breastfeeding mums in Portsmouth and to local businesses," Charlotte said.
"We want to continue to expand it throughout the city and to include more venues.
"Our survey of places that are already taking part in the scheme shows that 100% of them say that participating has had a positive impact on their venue and that 100% would recommend to other venues that they sign up to the scheme.
"You shouldn't ever be made to feel uncomfortable about breastfeeding in public. In fact, the Equality Act 2010 has made it illegal for anyone to ask a breastfeeding woman to leave a public place such as a cafe, shop or public transport."
Any public venue in Portsmouth can apply to become a Breastfeeding Welcome Venue. If you are interested in the scheme email: charlotte.raw@breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk.
Charlotte added: "We also offer free First Milk Matters training which aims to increase understanding of how and why early feeding is important to mothers, babies and the wider community as a whole. The course is ideal for anyone working with, alongside or providing services to mothers, fathers or children."
To find out more about the course contact Charlotte on the email address above.

Dear Solent Tv
Esther Rantzen is the VP of programming for That's Solent' and I thought it was great to have a local station with Esther in charge. There is a wealth of talent in this area and I believed that we would get shows that were new and innovative because there is not much on all the channels on Freeview that are worth watching. However all we get is a jewellery channel, news, sport and music. When Esther took on local television she said The most important thing for me is to make sure local TV is never dull and worthy'. There is an obvious comparison to what we were doing on That's Life! Well, it is dull why hasn't she taken on new talent and had shows' on that are different using people in the local area. There is so much potential in this area you only have to look at how successful our theatres are, The Mayflower, The New Theatre Royal, The Kings Theatre and Chichester Festival Theatre (which is the most successful outside of London). We have the most incredible locations here that could be used quite cheaply to create one off plays and shows. Please start putting on programmes that will attract audiences and show the major TV stations up with different things, take a chance by allowing creative people that live around this area an opportunity to try new things out. It could be great if you are willing to give people a chance and take some risks.
You have advertised for people and I know people in Chichester that have applied, yet you have not auditioned anyone that I know of. Television used to be so good we used to have the best in the world. All we have now is reality television so people watch programmes online because there is a wealth of good programmes on the computer. Unless television channels start being more creative people will turn to the computer to watch programmes. Take some chances with new talent allow them to do one program if they're no good get rid of them and try others, at least give them a chance!

Amanda, I have to agree with you. Although I have recently read that Esther Rantzen has since stepped down from That's Solent, along with former Managing Director of Meridian, Mary Mcnally. That's TV should have been a replacement for regional ITV, such as Meridian. Although i do have to ask, why doesn't Ofcom bring back ITV Meridian. .

Amanda: Solent TV probably has an operating budget of about tuppence, hence the lack of amazing programming, judging by the other local TV channels.

Chris Pearce: Since its lack of budget means that its studios are at Highbury College in Cosham, and its programming is largely that of a local radio station (which is only on for about 8 hours at most, and much less if you strip out the 3 hours of music videos), why would Ofcom want to award the franchise to Thats Solent?

Mike, very true. Ofcom should have left regional ITV alone and not allow ITV to reduce regional output and nit licence so many tv channels such as Really that all show repeats and american programming.

It is perhaps not suprising That's Solent TV has so far failed to attract any local advertising. Surely the station should follow the example of London Live and buy in some interesting programs such as drama series and record local or feature live musical talent as well as inviting contributions from keen local video and film producers.
