How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

I have a sky box just for freesat, its not got a phone line etc we just wanted a dish aerial when the change over occured, in April I turned it off at the mains to let ie reboot (?) turned it back on nothing, took it to the tv repair shop and it worked for them they lept it a few days and it continued to work, set back home all o.k. This Saturday I watched breakfast news etc, agin thought I'd turn it off from the wall, went to turn it on later, nothing as before, I changed the fuse in the t.plug and the set came on but NO Signal, went to the tv shop again, "sounds like your sky box" bought a new Goodmans came home plugged it all in still no signal, so I can't even set up the new box, any idea whats going on ??

Rita King: If the fault has been experienced on both boxes, then it has to be caused by an intermittent fault on either the LNB (on end of dish arm), or the coax cable / connectors that runs from same to your box.

If you have your own dish and "not" connected into a communal one, then apart from checking the coax where it enters the "F" connector on your box, or (if used) where its connected into a socket on a wall plate, making sure that its firm and hasn't slackened off, its nearly always the connector on the other end of the cable that causes the problem, such as water having entered the inside of connector on the LNB and shorting it out, this possibility having to be checked out by someone.

If you still have the Sky box then this should be used for testing purposes.

I've recently moved to an apartment in a converted house lodge thing where there are multiple residebts. In my room there is already a sky digibox with the viewing card inside but no interactive card.
There is also a receiver type box with the make of 'dion' which works but only picks up aljazeera and i cant change the channel since the tv is a hatchback and the remote isbt working even a generic one i bought specifically for the tv. I want to use the sky box but have not set up a modem or dish or anythibg yet so i wonder if there is a way i can still get freeview.

Leroy Pinder: A Sky box does not require anything other than a dish to enable the viewing of normal free-to-view programme channels, e.g: BBC / ITV and a host of others, the card (if not a subscriber) only being required for the purpose of enabling you to view news services appropriate to the area you reside in.

If the Sky box was left in the room by the previous occupier, then it can possibly be assumed that a socket exists for it to be connected into, the socket easily identified as being for satellite purposes by having a protruding threaded outer rather than a normal female receptacle.

The Dion Freeview box is a very low cost device which operates via a normal aerial, although if when you switch this device on its stuck on the Al Jazeera channel, then its not so much a case of trying to change the channel on the TV, but the one on the Dion box "if" its coupled into the TV via a scart lead?

I have a sky+hd box with a good signal on both cables from the dish at the rear of the box. From the on screen menu I am getting a signal on Input 1 but nothing on line 2.
This is resulting in a no satellite signal being displayed on screen.
Any suggestions as to what might be the problem

From your description it would appear that you are not getting a good signal on both inputs. The Sky+HD box has two inputs so that it can record whilest watching a programme or record two different programmes at the same time. If one input is giving a good signal according the LNB screen but the other is not then there may be a cable problem with the one that is not working correctly. The 'F' connectors must be correctly fitted on the ends of the cables (both ends!) without any stray copper filaments causing a short circuit or the braid./sheath taken too far back so it cannot accept the plug properly. Or maybe the centre 'prong' is too short to make contact in the socket. This applies to both ends as well. It is worth checking these and that they are properly screwed on finger-tight, not with a spanner! If in doubt about these chacks please ask someone locally who would know about these details.

Have changed both cables and even swapped them over from one to the other. Both have a signal at the rear of the box but always only Input 1 has a signal

Brian: If swapping the two cables over did not result in a signal being indicated on LNB2's strength / quality bars, then this points to the tuner associated with that input having failed.

If not already done so, try disconnecting the box from the mains supply for around 10 minutes or so before reconnecting it again, should this make no difference to the situation then this does not look too promising, as this type of problem is more connected to a hardware failure rather than software.
