Brennig: In that case you simply connect the two feeds from the dish into your Humax Freesat box and go though the usual set up procedure which involves you entering your post code when requested, this for no sinister reason other than to enable the box to tune into the transponders appropriate to providing the correct regional news services for your area.

Following watching the 'Day of the Doctor' via Humax Foxsat HD, HDMI to Pioneer 435XDE, my HDMI input is 'fried' & I get the dreaded green screen after 10 seconds with the Humax connected. No othe HDCP compliant devices eg Pioneer BD320, Sony PVR, Yamaha DVD-S2700 will connect at all. This issue manifested itself a while back on this forum with various makes of TVs having damage cause dto their HDMI interfaces with Sky & Humax boxes. If I disable HDCP on my Humax box, SD channels can be viewed without the green screen. Bottom line is that the Humax HDCP software has probably corrupted the HDCP firmware in the Pioneer. Anyone know if the foc repairs would still be available ?

Hi can any one assist with this please? I have a Humax FOXSAT HDR Free-sat box purchased when they first released this model some years ago this is linked to a standard size dish system which was previously linked to various set top boxes for the European satellite systems all working very successfully these STB's have been replaced with the Humax I have checked the dish alignment and replaced the original single outlet LNB and fitted a quad outlet LNB pick-up to allow for the Humax to record one channel and I am able to watch a second channel the HD picture is very good or should I say exceptional proving the alignment has not moved my problems are with the EPG and the channel number identification the first is the EPG only shows one program in advance of the one being shown so I am unable to pre select any later programs for recording and when the channel tuning system is run the box has allocated a channel identification number from 5000 upwards although the channel names are correct the three digit channel identification as used in magazines for the channel program information is not. I regularly check for manufacturers software updates to correct these and other anomalies like loosing the channels during very poor weather conditions with the message of channel is either not available or is scrambled which problem is corrected by running the program scan process to find all the channels again or leave it for a few hours for the weather to clear.

DaveG: Judging by what you have reported would suggest that the best policy would be to carry out a factory reset followed by carrying out a normal Freesat retune, both options achieved by pressing "menu" then selecting and pressing on the third icon down, the dish.

The other thing I would check is to make sure that the quad LNB you fitted is a standard universal 9.75 / 10.6GHz version and not some oddball device.

By the way, "if" your dish is perfectly aligned then the only thing that can cause picture break up is if its view of the skyline is being obstructed by tree foliage of any sort, or should this not apply then possible water contamination in one of the LNB's "F" connectors.

JB38 thanks for your response, I will try the factory reset I can confirm the replacement LNB is the correct spec and the dish has an uninterrupted view to infinity and the likely water contamination in the connections has been eliminated as the problem was the same before the LNB change and the new twin cable was installed and at this time external water proof measure was added to all joints to ensure this was not going to be a problem in the future. I will enter an update after the factory reset.

JB38 I have done the factory reset on the Humax box and the results relating to the previous problems has not changed but it has reduced the number of the HD channels previously found on the re-scan are no longer on the choice list even after two scans each being done on a cloudless clear day.

DaveG: Thanks for the update, however as far as your factory reset / Freesat rescan is concerned if the dish is correctly aligned and with it having an unobstructed view of the Skyline then it shouldn't really matter what like the weather is when you carry out a rescan, thundery downpours excepted!, but though I am beginning to suspect that your problems are possibly being caused by a defect on your box and so I would like you to try the undermentioned test.

Go into the Freesat retune menu and alter the post code to one I use for a test then carry out a retune, once completed select Ch103 then on the set up menu select "diagnostics" (System 4th icon down) and check that the frequency shown under the signal bars is10758 V 22000 5/6, if OK back out of the menu and change the channel to Ch101 then repeat the diagnostic test and checking that 10773 H 22000 5/6 is seen, finally select Pick TV on Ch144 and with the indications on that channel being12.207 V 27500.

If still OK then select BBC1HD on Ch108 with the diagnostic check indicating 10847 V 23000 2/3, ITV1HD (Ch119) indicating 10832 H 22000 5/6

By the way, what size is the hard drive on your model? this question purely to get an idea of the boxes age.

jb38 thanks for your response I have followed your various instructions from last communication so I will answer them in the order given. Sorry about the lengthy reply.
First problem came when trying to enter the post code which gave me the same problems I recall I had at the time of the first set-up entry as it does not matter what post code is entered and what layout is used the system continues to put up a message of "Post code is invalid" so I did leave it with your test content in the entry box "PE6 7XZ" following this I ran the manual version of scan and worked with the results of this to follow your next checks.
As I had previously stated in an early entry my results do not display the channel number e.g. Ch103 but I did the check the long way by working through my list in diagnostics module which I have to tell you was the first choice on the sub menu not the 4th so this may give you an idea of the age of the loaded system more on this later. Back to the diagnostics on my display it shows the frequency above the signal bar unlike your version of below however the content is the same so all the channels on the list were checked for reading accept the Pick TV which was not in the scan results list. Only one HD channel could be checked which was the ITV1HD as it is now the only one found on the most recent scan the result content of the frequency was as your list apart from as was in all cases the 2/3 or 5/6 I am shown this as (-) not the numerics as you examples I have in fact repeated the manual scan run a number of times since the reset at differing times of the day just out of interest to see if the content changes it does not and I still get a result count of 111 TV and 25 radio obviously in these results many of the TV channels are repeated such as Channel 4 first 5 entries on my results list. I have done one other check the results may be of interest which was the system information page the software version is HPRSFC1 1.00.02 last update date is 10 November 2008 and I have the software updater scheduled for the early hours of the morning which I know it activates and I have done the software update check manually many times with the same results which are very quick and it says no new software can be found. Judging by the last update date the system has never had an update even after I loaded the latest version from the web site and put on a USB key as described by the manufacturers. Last answer to your list is the size of the hard drive as near as I can give you as it only shows the data partitions and is a total of just over 300GB.

DaveG: Thanks for the update, the content of being very informative as it indicates that although your box is of a similar age to the one I use the software on yours is approximately 4 years out of date, the software version on mine being HPRSFCI 1.00.21 dated 27th July 2012 whereas yours is 1.00.02 dated10th November 2008, this being the most likely reason why you are experiencing so many odd problems on retuning etc.

No over air downloads for Humax HDR's are forecast for this week, although they "might" not work anyway by the fact of your box being so far out of date, this then leaving your only option being to download the software update from the Humax website onto a flash drive then transfer it into your box, this type of procedure not being without its problems!

Anyway, the first of the two attached links fully explains the procedure used and with the second being Humax's download site, I would though suggest that you have a study at them before attempting anything, because if anything goes wrong whilst carrying out the procedure your box could be permanently disabled.

DaveG : This is a link to the "over air" software download notification site where you can carry out a weekly check to find out if any Humax HDR downloads are forecast.
