Alasdair Frew-Bell: As you will obviously realise that although everything might appear as OK with your own electrical equipment it could be a neighbours device that is causing the problem, with the interference spikes either radiating directly from whatever or being injected into the mains supply.

A simple test is if you have a small portable radio with VHF and long waves, tune it away from BBC radio 4LW turn up the volume slightly and sit it close to a power socket, as if its mains borne interference then this will usually be revealed by pops and crackles being heard.

If though its a radiated problem, then tune to FM but not on any station so that you only hear the white noise, (hiss) and with the radios aerial pulled up carefully listen for any noises being superimposed over this hiss.

By the way, you do not require the radio being placed close to a power socket, although in many cases it helps.

You should also carry out a signal strength check on the offending channels, as if they are on the weak side they will be more vulnerable to interference.

Hi,
I have a sony vtx d800u freeview box that in all respects seems to be working perfectly except that it is missing ITV 1, Channel 4 & Channel 5. I have tried some or all of the things suggested in other posts to no avail. I live in Leigh, Kent.

Silvio: Hi. Please make sure that you have done a "first time" install (or "system reset" or "factory conditions"), rather than "add channels". If you can't find the manual to do that, do it this way My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

And, of course, remember that BBC three and BBC FOUR are on air from 7pm.

Hi Briantist,

I took a look, as you suggested, and thought it seems to describe the problem it doesn't say how to rectify it. Or am I missing something there.

Clive: You will need to see if you have any devices causing the interference. You can only really do this by disconnecting things until you work out what is causing the problem.

It can sometimes be as simple as a degraded "aerial fly cable" which you can replace for a few pounds.

I have tried disconnecting all bar the TV from the system. Made a new Coaxial fly cable and tested the scart connections by replacing the cabling.

BTW, when I try to clear the box, by scanning with the aerial removed, all program titles remain in the EPG.

Hi Dave, I will retry my digibox tomorrow and see what happens. The aerial is from the wall so is not a set top type,I tried these before but they did not receive any signal.Am on a lower floor with another towerblock and maisonettes all round!

Hi. Just like to say that since this morning my signal from Sandy Heath CH31 is now perfect. I can now get all the channels. About bleeding time.
