Graeme Pitt: Hannington digital transmissions use the same frequencies as Guildford's analogue transmissions. To avoid interference to the transmissions from Guildford, Hannington is severely restricted to the east.

This limitation will be removed when Hannington switches over, as services move to the main antenna at the top of the mast, which provides roughly omni-directional coverage. The PSB services will move on the 4th and 18th of February, with the COM services moving a little later on the 4th and 18th of April, when Guildford switches over.

It was proposed several times to remove this restriction, as it was believed that actually very few people in the Guildford coverage area would be affected badly enough. (One document admitted that Guildford had been made too powerful in the first place, covering too large an area.) Somehow, the change never occurred.

Signal levels can vary significantly over short distances, even without a restricted radiation pattern, so ideally you need to provide your house number as well as postcode when using the DUK postcode checker - your house may be in a different 100m x 100m grid square to the centre of the postcode.

Since the BBC2 analogue signal was switched off I am now getting intermittent interference on all the BBC digital channels. This didn't happen prior to the BBC2 analogue being switched off - all the other digital channels are fine with no interference, it's only the BBC channels that are affected. I am in south Birmingham and have a Freeview box. Is this a temporary problem?

Tony: It may not be a "temporary problem", but a sign of signal overload. If you have a booster, amplifier or other similar device in your system, you may have to remove it.

The eye is flashing so I know its sending a signal yet it does not respond. please please help. I live in spain and have a free to view sky card which worked perfectly until I left it unused for 6 months and now have no programmes at all except the usual sky news etc. Somebody told me to put the card back into the box and leave for 48 hours which I have done but no good. I am set on 12207 V is this the right setting for the costa blanca and can you suggest doing anything else?

I live in small block of flats and, therefore, have a communcal aerial system. This has just been upgraded - being compatible with both Freesat & Sky Digital. I have Freesat already, & this connection was put into the 'Return' socket; (what does 'Return' actually mean?) there is also a 'Sat.' aerial socket. Below this, there is the TV aerial socket & the Radio one. Two things which concern me: when switching to Freesat there is an awful persistent 'hum'; with difficulty, I changed the connecting aerial to the 'Sat' socket - but, still the hum. Second thing which concerns me is that when the aerial wire touches the sockets initially, there is a lot of 'sparking'. Would so appreciate knowing why these problems now. Thanks. PS. They took my dish away; does this mean dishes will no longer be necessary regardless of system used?

allrico: Yes, that is correct, Sky no longer support the Magic Eye device - they would much rather sell you the Multiroom box with it's subscription upgrade.

Ensure that the magic eye is the only thing connected to the RF2 output and that you have a good quality aerial fly lead connecting the Magic Eye box to the TV set.

It could, however, be that the "receiver bit" in the Sky box has died.
