To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Robert: It really sounds like you need some expert help. Try a CAI-registered installer who specializes in SMATV systems. You can search at Directory Search Page .

kipsonline: The Waltham transmitter started switchover last Wednesday and no longer transmits BBC Two analogue. ITV1 analogue has temporarily moved to BBC Two's old location until the 31st, when it, along with C4 and C5 analogue, will shut down permanently.

To diagnose properly we need a full postcode. I can only give general advice.

Very old equipment - before about 2004 - may not support 8K mode, or may not support it properly. This mode was always in the DVB-T spec, and it has some advantages; most other countries never used 2K mode. A partial list of equipment known to have problems with it is at http://www.digitaluk.co.u…ment .

Also, some older equipment cannot handle a large Network Information Table, that doesn't fit into one block - it's said to be 'split'. The NIT got too big in 2008, but many boxes don't have a problem until they're retuned. Again, see http://www.digitaluk.co.u…tnit .

There's a large overlap in coverage between the Belmont transmitter in east Lincolnshire and Waltham. A lot of boxes will store the first version of the channels they find, when scanning from lowest frequencies to highest. Belmont is on much lower frequencies than Waltham. You might find the Waltham channels in the 800 range. If so, see Digital Region Overlap for ideas on fixing this.

If you're sure it's tuning into the correct channels, and you still have problems, see Single Frequency Interference, although you would have seen interference on ITV1 analogue before switchover.

If you're fairly close to the transmitter - and it looks like you're close enough - it could be a case of too much signal. If you have a booster or other amplifier, remove it or turn it down. If that doesn't help, try adding an attenuator.

Hi there all

I am totally new to freeview, digiboxes and the like, not being interested in anything but the choice I had with channels 1 to 5 on my standard TV. But I was given a digital video recorder (the model is: technika aedtr160s7 digital video recorder) and after struggling with the installation for a coup[le of days I managed to get it working and it has been a revelation in terms of TV enjoyment.

Tonight however, I would have liked to have a look at the uefa football on itv 4 but have not got the channel installed and cannot install it either. I have read through this topic and have tried everything including the new installation of channels via the menu > set up option and have disconnected my set up completely several times to try and try but all to no avail in hoping for 1tv4.

Is it the case that I will not be able to get it at all or is there a sure fire way that anyone (briantist's knowledge is very impressive) knows will work if I go about it.

As I say I have loads of channels, even though I only really use channel 80 for the news but having this one extra would come in very handy from time to time.

My postcode is b31 2fp, I gather from info on here that I am receiving my signals from Sutton Coldfield I am not sure what type of aerial I have as it just comes through the wall in my home. There is Service Company who charge everyone in my block a fee for things like that so I am sure it will be of good quality. Thanks and I hope someojne can help.

Best regards,
Mark

Mark Anderson: The ITV4 programme you cannot receive is on Mux Ch55, so you should try a manual tune on that to see if anything shows listed during the scan, or indeed if you can see anything indicated at all on the signal strength / quality bar when you select that channel to scan.

If nothing, I would try and check with neighbours on the same aerial system to see if they are having any problems, this just in case the problem is with the distribution system.

It should be said that come the 21st of September when switchover stage 2 takes place, that channel will be changing to Mux Ch39 as well as its power increasing, but indications are that you should be presently receiving it.

Anyway try a scan etc as suggested, giving an update on the result.

Robert: Just out of interest I was checking your various postings, and on Dec 11th 2010 @ 07:11PM you stated that the aerial that was affected worst was the one that was the highest mounted.

I found you comment interesting, as this is why that in difficult reception areas where distance is not the cause of the problem I always advocate that the usual rule of "highest is best with the largest dB gain aerial possible" being mounted on the chimney stack does most definitely not apply, as the best signal is often found a few feet away from the stack or even much lower down altogether, this obviously not being terribly convenient for the person installing the aerial as well as it being a time consuming task to arrange, if at all possible!

This is where aerials such as amplified logs score every time over large pieces of metal work mounted on high poles, as if the best signal is found to be lower down at about loft level, then aerials such as mentioned mounted in the loft are much better by being easier to move around to obtain the exact "chosen spot".

Gutter mounting of these type of aerials getting over the occasionally experienced problem of the signal being degraded somewhat by certain types of wet roof tiles, or even snow, although when they are loft mounted facing into a gable end (TX direction permitting) then they don't suffer in the same way as they possibly can when facing through sloping roof tiles.

jb, interesting advice, funny how other 'aerial experts' say exactly the opposite, the higher the better and external rather than internal.

As for the aerials, I don't think I said that but stand to be corrected, the one we have the least trouble( occasional break up) with is an old analogue aerial mounted indeed on our highest chimney stack.

The one with the most issues,we were advised by an aerial firm to raise up so we bought a proper 3 piece aerial pole, and it worked fine for a while and then we lost mux 2. My son who is a radio and radar specialist, head of section in RN came home at the weekend and we went through all the connections and positions using his kit to test each signal individually, and he has confirmed the integrity of each one.

So we can only wait and see again.
