To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Mike: Post DSO, Belmont transmitter has 150kW on the three PSB MUXs, 50kW on SDN but only 8kW on Arq A and Arq B. What's interesting is that the four higher power MUXs are also on lower channel frequencies (22, 25, 28 & 30) with Arq A and Arq B higher up (53 & 60).
It could be that when you auto tune your telly, the first signal found is very "bright" and the tuner AGC adjusts accordingly. When it gets to the two Arq MUXs it may just miss them.
Try an auto scan with no aerial plugged in (to clear everything) and then manually tune just for the two Arq MUXs (on 53 & 60) first and check you get reception. Then manually tune for the rest of the MUXs (on 22, 25, 28 & 30) and see what happens.
The two Arq MUXs on Belmont stay at reduced power until 23rd Nov, when they get turned up to 100kW. That should put you back on track for an auto scan then.

Mike: Lets hope you your outdoor aerial is about the minimum size you can get? as you are virtually under the umbrella of the Belmont transmitter, meaning that serious overloading problems could be well be occurring which could be desensitizing your equipments tuner.

If you have one about, try a set top aerial and see what happens.

We have two tellys upstairs and have tried to different digi boxers on both of them but cannot get a signal. It says aerial isn't connected (but it is) and that there are no channels detected.

Any ideas??

I am in the Talconeston area and up until August 17th i had all 6 MUXES and great reception (well as good as they transmit it) lol

Since August 17th i have lost at least half of my channels and the Talconeston transmitter is now showing 8 frequencies instead of 6 when retuning.

August 17th was earmarked as the first step for DSO on the Talconeston transmitter, apparently now i have to wait till November 23rd (when the analogue signal is turned off)
Will i get my channels back at this point?

If i do not get those channels back then i will simply put the TV in the loft and cancel my TV license,
I am not paying for 10 poxy Freeview channels that in reality are no better in quality than Iplayer.
DSO seems to be a huge con in my opinion.
I have already paid for a new ariel installation (£175) and there is no way i am buying a new TV/set top box.

Pauline: If you are referring to Freeview boxes (Digi boxes usually a Sky box term) then what you see is suggestive of either the aerial being uncoupled somewhere along the line between you and the aerial, or that you are in an area where no reception is possible, and is something which cannot be verified one way or the other as no location (pref post code) was given.

This digital roll out seems to be a disaster in every area so far switched, I am dreading what will happen with Oxford as we have had so many problems already.

In order to receive Mux 2 I have had to install a booster to all my aerials, as we simply cannot receive a signal without, this even applies to our distribution amplifiers.

Hi
I re-tuned my Toshiba LCD TV/DVD combo the other day and lost most (but not all) of my program descriptions on the EPG.
Some channels still show an 'event' and time but most including all the BBCs and ITVs just show 'no event'
Any ideas gratefully received....
Pete
