e.g.reid You need to purchase a "Freesat" receiver. There is a range of both standard and HD readily available on the high street from local suppliers and Curry's, comet, John Lewis, Argos etc. The "Freesat" service is supported by the BBC and ITV and is subscription free. Its a straight swop over of receivers using your existing dish. You may need a small upgrade to the LNB and an additional feed if you are thinking of a receiver with recording capability. If your current SKY receiver has that capability you won't need the upgrade should you not require a "Freesat" receiver with the ablity to record

Hi Brian, I have a new HD TV on route. I have a basic Freesat installation ie single cable to a sky box (5 years old). Can I just make sure that I am picking things up correctly? Can I buy a standard Freesat + box to receive HD channels? I'm not bothered about recording or anything else at this time. L.G.

Lucy Green: Yes, you can swap out the Sky box for a Freesat HD box, as per Upgrading from Sky to Freesat
| ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice
- but you must use an HDMI cable, rather than the old-fashioned SCART lead.

For several months I too have been striving to get Sky to change their attitude to cutting off my HD+ recording facility whilst watching only free channels.
Today I made a call to Sky at about mid-day and spoke to them saying that this was the last chance for them to compromise. I knew that they some time ago that they had a half price offer but it had expired.
They have bben able to offer me the Basic Pack with one add on @ £9.75 for 6 mths with a promise to give a further 6 mths afterwards.

This seems better that paying £10 just to record.

My dad has just given me his old Sky+ box as he has upgraded to SkyHD and I want to use it to get all the freeview stuff. My question is do I need to have a freesat card to get these or do i just need to get a dish and plug the +box in?
