My Sky box has a no signal message - what do I do?
published on UK Free TV

If you are getting the message "no signal" this would indicate that there is a problem with the signal from your dish into your box. Even without a card inserted into a Sky Digibox, if there is a signal, you will always get Sky Guide and the free channels.

Try powering off your box, remove the card, check carefully the cables, especially the connection to the dish, reapply the power and then when asked to insert your card you should then be able to see (for example) Sky News on 501 and the BBC News channel on 503.

Once you can see any channel, reinsert your card. This should, after about one minute, give you the channels you expect, such as 103, 104 and 105.

There are three ways you can attempt to reset your box. Please see What can my do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' ?.

If you continue to get "No signal", you dish may have been misaligned, or there may be a fault with the cables and connectors, or a problem with the Digibox. You can see the signal strength by pressing SERVICES, then 4-SYSTEM SETUP and 6-SIGNAL STRENGTH.

Matt - If your getting all channels on the HD box then the dish alignment is OK It then comes down to either a faulty input connection at the receiver and or at the receivers connection to the LNB Sometimes this can be water ingress or just a poorly sealed connection. It might also be the PSU (power supply) in the receiver itself - usually the beginning of capicitor failure. If it's the latter you can obtain a replacement PSU for the receiver at a reasonable cost From "Satcure" online. These are of a superior quality than the originals
and as the PSU sub boards are anchored by removal screws and ribbon linked to the main board it's quite a straight forward swop out. If you lack the necessary skills best to have tis checked out by a competant repair outlet if this is indeed the problem. Always unplug the receiver from the mains Before doing any checks.

Last week had 'no signal' 29, tried everything over the phone so they sent engineer but whilst waiting for him it came back and was fine, today it went again with same message!! Only had sky 1 month and when installed man said the tree opposite could be a problem, it's been pretty windy where I am and dish is on roof, thought it could be that branches were blowing in front of dish but it's not windy now and it's still off, tried everything now, any ideas??

Cannot access box office.Grundig box DV3 comes up with "viewing information 13" insufficient credit on viewing card. Sky said they would have to send an engieer to reset box at a charge to me. Any ideas

Can you view everything else except box office? and if by any chance you can then the obvious question would be whether or not you have just purchased the box along with the card? as considering the box office can be used for "pay per view" material one explanation could be that the previous owner could simply be low on stored credit.

I would refrain from entertaining the idea of an engineer calling, as the expense of doing this would far outweigh the cost of another box.

We have an old type digi box in our bedroom, no card, only get few channels, think it's called freestat, it is saying no signal and won't come out of standby, tried all the above to no avail. Downstairs we have digi box with card in it so know Sky is working downstairs. Any suggestions please?

Jenny McCabe: The term "digi box" usually always refers to a Sky satellite device and if this is what you are meaning then it not coming out of standby can indicate that the box is faulty. (affecting some Grundig types in particular)

Try unplugging it from the mains and leaving it about 30 seconds before re-connecting it again, then and after about another 30 seconds try it out, if it doesnt respond its defective.
