Yes, the link at the top of the page for the City TV website needs to be deleted as it is now hosting a loan company website! The reason for this is shown below:-

The licence for local TV in Birmingham has been given to another group after City TV went into administration without broadcasting any programmes.

Regulator Ofcom said it had agreed to transfer the licence to Kaleidoscope TV Limited, which has until 28 February to get on air. The group's commitments include 41 hours of new local programmes a week.

It emerged in August that City TV, also known as BLTV, had gone into administration, three months before its deadline to start broadcasting.

Kaleidoscope's commitments include a half-hour programme of news at 18:00 and 22:00 and 23 hours a week of new local programmes in peak time - between 18:00 and 22:30.

Kaleidoscope TV's website is at:-

Kaleidoscope TV

Kaleidoscope may be a familiar name to some as the Birmingham-based classic British TV archive. This article on their website has some technical info on Kaleidoscope TV and even a broadcast map showing the intended transmission coverage area.

Big Centre TV
The first programme will begin transmission at 6pm on Freeview channel 8. The channel has already gained some good publicity as it will be transmitting a classic episode of "Crossroads" at 7:30pm.

Mark Wood: Hi Mark,

Can Big Centre TV reach me in Aldridge? All the postcode sites seem to say I can recieve the L-BRM mux from the antenna, but it's the only one I can't seem to pick up no matter how many times I auto/manual re-tune. Starting to think that maybe the signal is only beamed in a more southerly direction (obviously toward Birmingham), but the broadcast is from Walsall - a stone's throw from me. Seems a shame if I can't get it.

All replies very welcome.

Mathew: Hi Mathew, I'm sorry but I think that you have answered your own question there.

Although Big Centre TV are based at Walsall Studio School they are only transmitting from two transmitters Sutton Coldfield and Brierly Hill. Both transmitters are broadcasting a directional signal in towards Birmingham.

The two transmitters are broadcasting the signal in a different way so as to maximise the number of households that can receive it. Sutton Coldfield is broadcasting Horizontal Polarisation while Brierly Hill is broadcasting Vertical Polarisation.

So I'm afraid that if you have already tried multiple manual and auto retunes and are not picking it up on channel 8 then it would seem that Aldridge is outside that directional signals path. Can you receive QVC on Freeview channel 57 and POP on channel 125 ?

However, the channel's own website has a "Watch Live" feature which should allow you to watch programmes live. I live in Stoke-on-Trent so I'm way out of range for this channel but I've just checked and it is showing the programme currently being transmitted "The Ad's Show". (You do need to input your name and e-mail address to watch the channel live via the website).

Mathew: Go to the manual tune screen and enter/select UHF channel 51 but do not press the button to scan/add services. Instead, wait and see what readings it gives for strength and quality. Observe them for a minute or so and see if there are variances.

The new Channel meant for Birmingham and the black country can be received in the Badsey and Aldington area of Worcestershire. I use the Sutton Coldfield transmitter as it just covers where I live. I could use Lark Stoke but receive a lot more HD channels from Sutton Coldfield. Channel 8 just popped up on my Sony tv between BBC three and BBC four. The signal is fairly good but pixelates rarely. I was surprised to see I could receive it. My Sony set continually scans for new channels automatically.

Shocked and appalled. The information here is so out-of-date you'd be better off asking dinosaurs for advice!
