How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

for most of a week my sky has shown 'technical problem, try later'. I ve seen procedures on web but I m in a wheelchair and can t reach parts of the tv set-up. freeview is fine but after 'guide' all I can get is a blue screen with 'technical' advice..is this problem network and being fixed, or do I have to phone the infernal call centre? due to a stroke my speech isn t good. thanks.l

David Rose: The symptoms as described are suggestive of a fault having developed on your dish system, such as it having moved slightly out of alignment, if you can access the dish? make sure that the bracket its mounted on hasn't slackened off.

Another reason for the problem can caused by water having entered the "F" connector that's screwed into the LNB mounted on the end of the dish arm, this having to be checked by unscrewing the connector from the LNB then further unscrewing it from the coax cable, if all appears to be OK placing a small blob of Vaseline inside the connector before screwing it back onto the coax etc, making sure whilst doing so that none of the strands of the braiding have accidentally become wrapped around the centre core of the coax.

If the "F" connector can eliminated from the equation, then the problem could be down to the box having developed an internal power supply problem, not exactly uncommon on older boxes, a test that "sometimes" works being to disconnect it from the mains for 10 minutes to allow it to cool down before reconnecting it again and allowing it to go through the usual searching for listings procedure, should this restore the box into normal operation then the power supply is defective.

As far as the possible alignment problem is concerned, if at all possible, its a lot less hassle to either try another box on your dish system or alternatively your box on someone else's.

By the way, should you be referring to a Sky+ type of box? try swapping the two LNB input leads over, if the signal returns then the coax that was previously connected into LNB1 is defective.

David Rose : That said was on the assumption that it is "not" snowing where you are located? or if it is, that the problem occurred before it started?, because should it not have, then the no signal problem can be caused by a build up of snow on the either the dish or the face of the LNB, carefully drawing a brush across both mentioned usually curing the problem.

jb38: thanks jb38.....but I am afraid still no success. I havechecked fully the LNB connections at the box and the dish band tried all three procedures suggested but stil showing that the inputs are ' unlocked ' and my wife, having communicated with the Sky helpline has been told we need an engineer to call as we cannot reset the unlocked inputs.
We will have to call an engineer tomorrow.
Regards
David

David Rose: If an engineer has been called then the problem will obviously be sorted out, but though, on the issue of the inputs showing "unlocked" is concerned, this automatically reverts to indicating "locked" as soon as a signal is received.

However, there is another list of settings it would be worthwhile checking on your box, albeit that its unusual for a box to lose them, the procedure seen at the very top of this page being applicable to Sky+HD boxes, if though you are using either a standard box or a Sky+ (white) box, then this is the procedure.

Press : "Services - 4" - the next menu headed by "picture settings", do "not" press on.

Press : "0 - 0 - 1 - select" , this taking you into the "installers" menu.

Press : 1 LNB set up, followed by pressing the red reset button and checking that the settings are as follows, finally selecting "save settings".

Low band - 9.75
High band - 10.6
LNB power - On
22Khz command - On

Press : 2- "Default transponder" on completion of above, and as before pressing the red reset button and checking the settings are as follows.

Frequency - 11.778
Polarisation - Vertical
Symbol rate - 27.5
FEC - 2/3

These are about the maximum number of settings that you can check on, apart from going through the "upgrade software" procedure shown in the heading of this section.

David Rose: Well you have certainly tried to correct the problem, as about the only possible reasons left are either your dish having moved slightly out of alignment, or alternatively the LNB having failed, if not indeed the box itself!

Would appreciate an update on the outcome of the engineers visit.
