To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Terry: Some equipment does have trouble with multiplexes with very different power levels, so it could simply be that, and it will resolve itself when everything else powers up next week.

It could also be a case of too much signal, with the high-power BBC A bleeding into the adjacent channel (Mux 2). If you have a booster, remove it or turn it down. If not, try adding an attenuator.

Alan: Too much signal is the most likely explanation.

Thanks I have ordered an attentuator to put in between the aerial cable and HDD box and waiting delivery from Amazon. It's certainly worth a try for £3.99 + free pp as when I disconnected the aerial lead from the box to carry out the above procedure I didn't move the end of the aerial far enough away from the recorder and the signal was jumping the few inches between and was able to scan in channels even though it shouldn't have been able to

I had an aerial upgrade and power booster/distributor fitted in August by installer in the loft ready for the DSO so you could be right the Bush may not be able to handle the stronger signal unlike the others.
I'll give it a go.

It was certainly much easier when TVs were powered by valves like my parents TV in the 1950's although the picture was black and white ans pretty grainy....what price progress eh ?

Terry: Not really sure without a full postcode, but yes, you should get all services in one weeks time.

My postcode is OX18 2BE and todays efforts at switchover at the Oxford transmitter have resulted in loss of the ITV1, Channel 4 and 5.

They were fine yesterday, and I have followed all advice on retuning , including trying a manual search on channel 68.

Has anything changed? Is power output on this mux dropped? Any suggestions?

Dear Alan and everyone else who have replied. It sounds as though those of us under the spell of The Sutton Coldfield Mast must wait until 21st and then hold our breath. Given the trouble and the rubbish on TV anyway I wish I had my old CRT back with its old box and my money back in the bank.
Thanks Again

I have switched my retune efforts to my Humax PVR and after failing to improve things with auto installation , I did get things back after resetting to factory defaults.
Tried the same thing on my TV, but no better.

I have just purchased a new LG television & Phillips Digibox. The TV scanned in all channels OK. However the digibox will only scan in BBC but not ITV from one transmitter, and scan ITV minus BBC from the other available transmitter.As the aerial is common could the new box be defective?
My Postcode is SY2 5PG.

Same problem as Barrie Layfield, basically.

I've lost ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 etc. i.e. Mux2. Also, some other channels are now breaking up when they didn't before...

Aerial is roof mounted - not a "wide band". Facing Oxford transmitter.

Have tried the reset procedure mentioned and also the factory reset - I have a Humax PVR and a Toshiba TV. Also tried a manual search for channel 68.

No joy....Should I be patient and wait and see what happens on 28th September when it's all change again?

I don't think there's been any publicity to the effect that some channels will be lost for at least 2 weeks...
