To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Robert: The signal certainly is not analogue - see How digital television works | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice if you want some proper information.

NOKIA 121T Mediamaster
Nokia have just said they do not support this as warranty is out and gave no real help. Also said box was not designed for the digital changeover. Yes it is it has 8k demodulation etc etc.

Well mine is working post Waltham: 31 August 2011.
1. Disconnect coaxial cable from box (in feed).
2. Do factory startup.
3. This gets over the only 100 channels bug, as you get none, but you get your menus.
4. Do not do a full auto tune.
5. Look up which MUX channels you need and tune each MUX one at a time.
5. It will work because there are less than 100 channels; but before you may have got stray channels from another distant transmitter (eg Belmont if you live in mid Lincs.)

Briantist, forgive me but the signal is analogue as Robert says. The payload is digital, but the *carrier* is analogue, therefore what is transmitted is an analogue signal.

EagerBeaver: Sorry, but no, the transmitted signals are digital, the COFDM encoding depends on the incoming data being a digital datastream and the way it works (in particular the 8k carriers) totally depends on the fact that it is digital.

If you start arguing that because the signal travels over a physical medium, then nothing can be digital at all as the photons in fibre optical cables and electrons in a wire are "analogue".

Is that your argument? Because the system uses the same 8MHz blocks of transmission space the system is "analogue underneath".

Hi, I've moved from ca28 6jf to Newcastle ne2 3ht 3days ago, and since I moved/reset and installed the tv/ freeview box again (many many times!), all I can get is the BBC channels (apart from BBC 4), my aerial is a set top but has a good booster on it - powerful enough to get all available channels in Whitehaven and ne2 3hn where I lived a few years back and the bbc channels here are very clear. Yesterday I bought another even better set top aerial but to no avail, (no external aerial is present) and I've tried the tv in all available rooms but it still will only find the BBC ones. What would you recommend? Could the problem be the freeview box (a 5yr old alba one)? Thanks for any assistance (ca28 6jf)

I've had a similar problem to Darren from Peterborough and Jenny from Newcastle-upon-Thames. My post code is KT1 2TE. I also have a Humax PVR-9200T which has served me well over the last two years. About a week ago I noticed the reception to be quite sketchy so I did a re-tune. What a mistake! I only get the BBC channels, no Only some of the ITV's, no Channel 4 and no 5. I've done a Reset to factory default and even did the manual switch-off-unplug-retune-plug-in-retune... still the same issue. My outdoor aerial hasn't moved in the last year and a half. Is there any reasonable explanation for this?

Werner: The issue is not so much re-setting or re-tuning but carrying out "manual" tuning of the multiplex channels involved, as the chances are that you are picking the odd channel up from another station, maybe even Reigate at 11 miles away, albeit that DUK's trade predictor does not show this as possible.

Blank out the channels on your Humax by removing the aerial and carrying out a scan with it, then after plugging back in again manually tune in the following channels, storing as required.

Ch25(BBC1) - Ch22(ITV1) - 31(HD) - 32(SDN) - Ch34(ArqA) - Ch29(ArqB) - Ch28(MuxB)

Note you may not receive Ch31(HD) properly, as many are having problems with it since the end of August when Sandy started using the same channel.
